William H. H. Bridwell and his wife, |
Sarah Elizabeth "Bet" Thornberry
Bill Bridwell and Bet Thornberry were married in Webster County KY 21 Oct 1860, in one of the first marriages after the
formation of the new county. They had eleven children, all born in Webster County
between 1862 and 1883.
William came to Webster County from Bullitt County KY with his recently widowed and remarried
mother, Patsy Briscoe Bridwell Jewell, earlier in 1860. His father, Fielding Bridwell, had been a
native of Virginia, who came to Nelson County KY in 1806 with his father, Presley Bridwell,
and his grandfather, Simon Bridwell. William Bridwell made his living as a huckster, buying and selling goods throughout the county. See photo of wagon.
Bet was the daughter of Russell K. Thornberry and Emeline Poole. Her maternal grandparents were
John Poole and Jane Huston.
