James T. Bird

James T. Bird was born Feb 1815 in North Carolina. His father was A. Bird, who was born 31 Jan 1784 in North Carolina and his mother was Isabella Corbit born 11 Sep 1790 in North Carolina. James T. had an older brother named Leander Bird born 11 Mar 1813.

The Bird family came to western Kentucky sometime between 1816 and 1820. After arriving, A. and Isabella had a daughter named Elizabeth T. Bird born 16 Apr 1820. A. Bird died in Dec of 1820 and is buried in the Jennings cemetery near Providence, KY in Webster County.

James Bird married 1) Mary Jane Edmondson 5 Dec 1839. They had four children. After her death James married 2) Elizabeth E. Sims 7 Aug 1852. They also had four children. James married 3) Dorothy E. Wilson 27 Aug 1860 and she died shortly after giving birth to their only son in 1862. He married 4) Narcisca Grayham on 25 Feb. 1864 and they had four children.

James T. fought in the Civil War. He was in Co. C of the 10th Kentucky Calvary and he was also in Co. G of the "Morganmen". He did not fight in any significant battles but was captured at Madisonville, KY and sent to Johnson's Island prisoner of war camp near Sandusky, OH; in 1863 he was released as part of a prisoner exchange.

James Bird spent his last days living with his son William G. Bird; he died in Blackford 23 Dec 1906 and was buried 25 Dec 1906 in Grangertown, Union Co. KY next to his fourth wife.
