Although Cora Jenkins Hicks and Asbie Hicks were born and raised in Webster
County, after they married they moved into the city of Henderson and lived there
for many years. Then they moved to Indianapolis, Indiana and ran a boarding house
there. In 1948 they came back to their roots in Webster County after being away
for over forty years. They bought a farm near Sebree where they were to live until
Asbie died in 1964. The farm was a place where friends and family loved
to visit because of Cora's great cooking and warm hospitality. All the while,
Asbie could be found getting up at the crack of dawn and spending the day hard
at work out in the fields.
These photos depict what life was like on a Kentucky farm in the 1940's and 1950's.

Unless otherwise noted, these photos were handed down
to Cora's great-grandson, Rod Hicks and his wife Patti
and her great-granddaughter Mical Hicks Cisterna
This project was inspired by the terrific
