George Edward "Ed" Gates was born 1873 NC. He came with his brothers and sisters to Kentucky. They were: Laura Pretence (Pettie) Gates b. 1870 NC, who was married to John William Tapp b 1865 NC; Joe Gates, b 1871 NC; Robert Andrew Gates, b 1875 NC; and Rosa Gates, b 1883 NC.

George Edward's first wife, Georgia, who was b 1865, died abt 1910. They lived on a small farm not too far from the park in Sebree. Their children raised in Sebree were: Jack, John (or J.T.), Ethel, and Fred. There were also children from the second marriage.
