Old Ashley Schoolhouse


The old Ashley Schoolhouse was built on the Ashley land where they had built their old homeplace.

In the left background you see the chimney and part of the house.

Delia Frances (Sutton) Ashley, who is standing in the doorway, taught at this school. Students in the photo are unknown.

From Jeremiah Ashley and Caroline Ashley his wife, and James Monroe and his wife Delia Ashley to G.W. Tow, J.M. Ashley and J.A. Sutton, the trustees of common school district #74, for and in consideration of $1.00 - one acre on the waters of Knoblick Creek. So long as used as a site for a public school. Webster County Deed Book 46, page 143: 25 Apr 1907, Dist #74.
