This tintype photo of John Harry Matthews and his brother George was taken about 1895. Both men were carpenters.

John Harry Matthews, born 08 June 1865 in Sebree, married Nancy Catherine Cranor and they had 8 children. They left Sebree about 1904 and moved to Johnston City, IL, where he designed and built the Stonefort Bank in Stonefort, IL and the First National Bank, City Hall, and the Methodist Church in Johnson City. He died there 16 Feb 1914.

George Hurbert "Hub" Matthews was born 20 Nov 1874 in Sebree. He married Alice N. "Allie" Davis in Sept. 1897. Hub worked for his brother until John Harry's death and then he worked in the coal mines. Hub died in 1954.
