Obediah Ligon Family

Obediah Blackman Ligon and his wife, Marjorie Crews Holeman Ligon are seated, center, and Tom Markham's mother, Fannie Belle Ligon, who was born April 1891, is standing behind them.

Fannie Belle's mother, Louisa Frances Hunter, died in childbirth; Obediah then married Marjorie Holeman so Marjorie is Fannie's step-mother.

Obediah B. Ligon was the son of Joseph Ligon III and Rebecca Brackett.

Below are Tom's best guesses on who is who in this photo:
Back row, L to R: Edward Ligon and wife Emma; Emma's brother John Webster and his wife Adah Ligon Webster; brothers Alvin and Nathan Gass and their wives Annie and Esther (Essie) Ligon; on the end is Florence Ligon. See photo of Ligon sisters.

Center row, the couple on the left are probably George Lee Kyle and his wife Myrtle Ivy Ligon Kyle. The young girl beside Myrtle is probably a daughter of Marjorie Ligon by a previous marriage. The boy next to her is probably Lawrence Ligon, a son of Obediah and Marjorie. Tom Markham's mother, Fannie Belle Ligon, is in the center and the small boy is probably William Ligon, the youngest son of O.B. and Marjorie..

Front row L to R: two men Tom can't identify although one of them looks a lot like O.B. Ligon and could be a brother. The elderly couple are probably the couple that O.B. and his sister Mary lived with when their Father died. Tom thinks they were Mr. & Mrs. James Ligon, possibly O.B.'s aunt and uncle, or half-brother and sister in law. The lady beside Marjorie could be her mother, Nancy Anderson Crews.

The last man in the front row is another that Tom cannot identify, but all of these people appear to be part of Obie or Marjorie's family. Sarah Ligon says that Marjorie had a son named Tom Holeman and thinks he could be the man on the right.
