J. R. Burton, b. Sept 9, 1917 d. Aug 24, 1995, was the son of Lee Mack Burton and Ethel Mae Scott. J. R. Burton was the father of Henry Burton, Rita Burton's husband. J. R. and Ethel also have a daughter, Carolyn Jean Burton Herron.
