J. Z. Shelton, 1889-1989, was the son of Winfield Scott Shelton and Annie Skudmore McMullin.

Zula Farmer, 1889-1973, was the daughter of Thomas D. Farmer and Sally Epley.

J.Z. and Zula married in 1910 and became the parents of five children.
