Individual note: There is a Garland Cates, 4 Mar 1870-11 Aug 1924, buried at Mt. Gilead Cemetery. With him is Mildred Florida Cates, 19 Mar 1869-10 Feb 1938. This may be Garland and a wife he married after Minnie's death or it could be a sister. There is a sister Flordie, b Mar 1872, age 24 and single, living with the Richard Cates family in the 1900 Webster census.
1900 Webster census, Garland Cates, b Mar 1871, age 29, marr 1 year.
I have found Garland Cates, age 49 with wife Mary, age 30 in the 1920 Webster census, p 165. Their son Harrie, is 5 years old. But Mary was born in 1890, so Mildred may be a third wife.
Dixon Journal, vol 1, p 74; Nov 1916: Link's Grove: Garland Cates, Mrs. Mary Cates, J.W. Carnal and daughter, Letha, went to Slaughters Saturday.
