1880 Hopkins census, p 185: G.W. Whitsell, age 27; living with his widowed mother. Two of his children are living with them, too: Ines M., 3, gr-dau; and John F. 8, gr-son. Ines M. Whitsell, age 4, gr-dau is also listed in the 1880 Hopkins census with Isaac S. and Elizabeth Coffman.
Whitsell article, History of Hopkins Co KY page 295. He often spoke of seeing Civil War soldiers running through the field he was plowing when he was 12 years old. His son George Herbert Whitsell (by Mary Catherine Cannady Jennings) married Mattie Mae McGary 7 Oct 1915.
About 1906 George moved his family from Slaughtersville in Webster County to Hopkins County; in 1911 he bought 25 acres on Brown Road and lived there until January 1916 when he purchased a farm on Frostburg Road along Pond River.
1900 Webster census, George Whitsell is 47 years old marr 16 years. Wife is Mary C., age 46, she has had 8 children, 8 living. p 160B
There is a George W. Whitsell 1866-1947 buried at Slaughters Cemetery.

G W Whitsell Heart Victim
George Williamson Whitsell, 91, retired farmer, resident of and near Madisonville thirty years, died at 2:20 pm Thursday in his home, Earlington pike, thirty minutes following a heart attack.
Mr Whitsell had been in ill health years, attributable to influenza. He was stricken the second time February 28 last, and had been bedfast since.
Born March 5, 1853, at Slaughters, Mr Whitsell was the son of George Williamson and Marjorie Cruse Whitsell who came from Oglethorpe county, Ga., to Slaughters in 1830 (sic). He was the oldest of ten children. His parents died in Slaughters.
Mr Whitsell was married three times. His first wife was Miss Laura Coffman, Dalton. To them one child, Mrs Inez B Lynch, 727 North Seminary, who survives, was born. After his wife's death, Mr Whitsell married Miss Mary Catherine Cannaday, Providence, in 1881. She died in 1922. To them were born six children: J F Whitsell, Sturgis; J H Whitsell, Chattanooga; J D Whitsell, 231 South Seminary; Mrs P J Northern, Chattanooga; Mrs Albert Whitfield, Hopkinsville, and Mrs J H Morton, Mortons Gap. All are living.
In 1923 Mr Whitsell married Miss Florence Wilson, Hartford, Ky., no children resulted from that union. Mrs Whitsell, his sister, Mrs Nannie Hall, Jonesboro, Ark., also survive, with a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Many years Mr Whitsell had been a member of Madisonville Primitive Baptist Church.
Funeral was conducted at 5 pm today in the Whitsell home after the body was taken from S T Harris Funeral Home. Elder J D Shain officiated, assisted by Elder Fon Weedman. Burial was in Odd Fellows cemetery.

This may be the John G. Whitsell, b May 1867 KY GA NC, age 33, marr 11 years in the 1900 Webster census, Slaughters District. His wife is Mary S., b May 1870, age 30, marr 11 years, has had 6 children, 5 living. I can't find a marriage for him though.
Buried next to John P. Whitsell 23 Jan 1855-11 Oct 1888 at Onton Cemetery is M.F. Crowley Whitsell 8 Jul 1835-23 Oct 1931.
