Woods married Sarah "Sally" Brooks 20 Apr 1876 Webster County. They became the parents of eight children including Daris/Doris and David Woods. James F. Woods' 1941 obituary can be read online.

Doris Woods was killed in the same mine accident that took the life of Aaron Bridwell. Doris Woods married Maud Catherine Osborn, the daughter of W. H. C. Orsborn and Elizabeth Poole.
