John S. Newton 1845 - 1877 John Shelby Newton was the son of Washington Newton and Martha Phipps, both of whom were deceased before 1860. His sister was Margurite Minton. In the 1860 Webster County census John S. Newton, is living with the William Newton family in Vandersburg.

John S. Newton married Lettice J. Shelton, the daughter of Hamilton Shelton and Rosanah Grayson, 16 Nov 1865 Webster Co KY. They became the parents of six children. Their son Lynn Boyd Newton is buried at Shady Grove Cemetery with his wife Nora C. Crowley.
