Pleasant Sparks was the oldest child of Noah Sparks and Lucinda Newton. He married Arramintha Clementine Grayson, the daughter of William Grayson and Uriah Marks, 23 Feb 1865 Webster County and they became the parents of eleven children.

After the death of his first wife, Pleasant Sparks married Mattie (Mason) Berry and they were the parents of a daughter, Lillian, born 1911. Mattie Sparks died in 1940 and is buried at Petersburg Cemetery in Webster County.Pleasant Sparks enlisted in Company C, 35th Regiment Kentucky Mounted Infantry on 12 Aug 1863 at Owensboro, Kentucky and was discharged at Louisville 29 Dec 1864.
