Thurman "Dick" Winstead was the son of
John S. Winstead, 1863-1924, and Nancy Jane Springfield, 1860-1946, both of whom are buried at Mt. Gilead Cemetery. Kittie Melton was the daughter of Lewis A. Melton and Permelia Bell Marks both of whom are buried at this cemetery.

While photographing their stone, Marian and Amy Dunn discovered two previously unnoticed brick-sized stones with glazed tops next to Thurman and Kittie Winstead's stone. They read: Augusta and Thurman, Jr. with no last names or dates. According to Kentucky Death Records, a son Augustus Winstead was born to Dick and Kittie 2 Dec 1913; he died 17 Feb 1914, and was buried at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. No record was found of the birth or death of a Thurman Winstead, Jr.
