Sawney Cranford Randolph Co. NC Will Record Transcription

I Sawney Cranford of the County of Randolph and State of North Carolina being of sound mind and memory but considering the uncertainty of my earthly existance do make and declare this my last Will and Testament. In Manner and form following. That is to say first that my executor (herein after Named) Shall Provide for my Body a decent burial suitable to the wishes of my relations and friends and pay all funeral expenses together with my just debts however and to whomsoever owing out of the moneys that may first come into his hands as a part or parcel of my Estates, first I give and bequeath to my beloved Wife Ruth Cranford two feather Beds and furniture consisting of Eight Sheets Four Blankets and two Bed Quilts, one small pot and oven, one jersey cow, one hefier, Two Hundred and fifty pounds salted pork, Twenty Bushels of Corn and five of wheat, Twenty pounds of Coffee and Ten pounds of Sugar and Two Gallons of Molasses, as to Lands or real Estate I have none to devise to my said wife or any body else, I give and bequeath to our oldest son Seth Cranford, one cow & calf and one feather bed. I give and bequeath to my oldest Daughter Sally Russell one cow & calf and one feather Bed. I give and bequeath to my second daughter Elisabeth Shaw one cow & calf and one feather bed. I give and bqueath to my third daughter Cynthia Leadwell one cow & calf and one feather bed. I give and bequeath to my second son Henry Cranford one Cow & Calf and one Bed. I give and bqueath to my third son Temple Cranford one cow & calf and one feather bed. I give and bequeath to my fourth and last son, Thomas one cow & calf and one feather bed, the above gifts and bequeathments to my said children have been advanced to each & all, I give and bequeath to my two youngest Children of my second and present wife, Miranda Cranford & Mary Cranford, three dollars each. The will and desire is that all the residue of my estate after taking out the Legacies before mentioned shall be sold and the debts owing to me all collected and oif there should be any surplus over and above the payment of (word written then crossed out and word "debts" written on top of the word) expresss and Legacies that such surplus shall be equally divided and paid over to my said Wife and all my children in equal proportions. Share & Share alike to them and each & every of them, their executors Administrators & Assigns absolutly forever and whereas my two youngest Daughters Mirdanda & Mary being are minors, one aged two years and the other five months, consequently Miranda will not be of age until the 29th day of August 1866 and Mary until the 3rd day of July 1868 now therefore my will and desire is that Emsley Lassiter is hereby constituted and appointed Guardian of these my two children to have and to hold their custody & Guardianship both of their respective persons until they they said children shall severally arrive at the full age of Twenty one years; and lastly I do hereby Constitute and appoint Emsley Lassiter my lawful Executor to all intent and purposes, to execute this my last Will & Testament according to the true intent and meaning of this the same and every part and clause thereof hereby revoking and declaring utterly void all other wills and Testaments by me heretofore made, in Testimony whereof I the said Sawney Cranford do hereunto set my hand this the 14th day of January 1848.

Signed, Sealed Published & Delivered by the said Sawney Cranford to be his last will and testament in presence of us who, at his request in his Presence and in the presence of each other do Subscribe our names as Witnesses thereto} Sawney (his X mark) Cranford {Seal}

The due execution of this last will and testament of Sawney Cranford deceased is proved in open court by Micajah Lassiter & Nancy Steed the unto witnesses to the same and ordered to be recorded. B.F. Hoover, Clerk
