This is part of the military warrant issued to Captain Gabriel THROCKMORTON and assigned to William BARTLETT, Jr., as mentioned in William’s will dated April 7, 1777 and probated November 18, 1777 in Berkeley County, Virginia (now West Virginia). William's Land Grant was issued to his heirs in April, 1785, the warrants (3) having been issued in February, 1780 and the land surveyed in November, 1783. James CRANE was the brother of William's wife, Mary CRANE, and uncle of Henry and John BARTLETT.

PATRICK HENRY ESQUIRE Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, to all to whom these presents shall come, greeting: Know ye, that by virtue and in consideration of a military warrant under the King of Great Britains proclamation of seventeen hundred and sixty three number three hundred and eighty one and issued the sixteenth day of February one thousand seven hundred and eighty there is granted by the said Commonwealth, unto James CRAIN assignee of Henry and John BARTLETT heirs at law to William BARTLETT deceased who was assignee of Gabriel THROCKMORTON a certain tract or parcel of land containing two hundred and fifty acres by survey bearing date the eleventh day of November one thousand seven hundred and eighty three lying and being in the County of Jefferson on the waters of the east fork of Floyds fork and is bounded as followeth (to wit) Beginning at William BARTLETTs lower corner at a sugar tree poplar and mulberry, thence south twenty degrees east along William HOBDAYs line of his survey of one thousand acres one hundred and fifty seven and a half poles to two beach trees at HOBDAYs corner corner [sic], thence north seventy degrees east two hundred and thirty one poles crossing Long run two hundred and fifty four poles to a beach ash and elm trees, thence north twenty degrees west one hundred poles to Long run one hundred fifty seven and a half poles to a poplar and beach trees, thence south seventy degrees west two hundred and fifty four poles to the beginning with its appurtenances; to have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land, with its appurtenances to the said James CRAIN and his heirs forever.
