Nicholas BARTLETT - 235 Acres - 1785 - Greenbrier Co.

Patrick HENRY Esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, To all to whom these Presents shall come Greeting Know ye, that by virtue of a Certificate in Right of Settlement given by the Commissioners for adjusting the Titles to unpatented Lands in the district of Augusta Botetourt and Greenbrier and in Consideration of the ancient composition of twenty five shillings sterling paid by Nicholas BARTLETT unto the Treasury of the Commonwealth there is granted by the said Commonwealth unto the said Nicholas BARTLETT a certain tract or parcel of land containing two hundred and thirty five acres by Survey bearing date the Second day of November one thousand seven hundred and Eighty three lying and being in the County of Greenbrier on Sinking Creek adjoining the lands of John LYNCH and founded as followeth, to Wit, Beginning at a sugar tree thence South Seventy two degrees West fourteen poles to a Burch near a mill South Eighteen degrees East Sixty poles to a Burch South forty Six degrees East forty eight Poles to a sugar tree South sixty eight degrees East forty two poles to a sugar tree South sixteen degrees East thirty four poles to a thorn? South forty four degrees East thirty nine poles to a sycamore South sixty three degrees East ninety six poles to a sugar tree South sixty five degrees West sixty four poles to a cherry tree South sixteen degrees West, ninety eight poles to a hickory, South thirty seven degrees East thirty two poles to a sugar tree, South sixteen degrees West thirty four poles to a sugar tree on the side of a hill South thirty six degrees East forty four poles to a double sugar tree North twenty four degrees East fifty six poles to a sugar tree near a path North nine degrees West seventy two poles to a sugar tree in a bottom North forty six degrees East one hundred and twenty seven poles to a maple North eight degrees West sixty poles to a sugar tree North seventeen degrees West eighty seven poles to a sugar tree near an old cabbin North seventy one degrees West two hundred and two hundred and thirty two poles to the Beginning with it appurtenances to have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land, with it’s appurtenances to the said Nicholas BARTLETT and his heirs forever. In Witness whereof the ____ Patrick HENRY Esquire Govenor of the Commonweath of Virginia, hath hereunto set his hand and caused the lesser seal of said Commonwealth to the affixed at Richmond on the tenth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty five and of the Commonwealth the tenth.
