DEED FROM JAMES AND BETSY ROW BARTLETT
TO JOHN WHITE, 1787

THIS INDENTURE made this 31st day of October in the year of our Lord one Thousand Seven hundred & Eighty Seven Between James BARTLETT of the County of Spotsylvania of the one part and John WHITE of the same County of the other part, Witnesseth that the said James BARTLET [sic] and his wife Betsy Row BARTLET for and in consideration of the sum of One hundred pounds current money of Virginia to him the said James BARTLETT in hand paid by the said John WHITE, the receipt whereof he the said James BARTLET doth hereby confess, he the said James BARTLET and his wife have bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain sell and confirm unto the said John WHITE his heirs and Assigns forever all that tract or parcel of Land, situate lying and being in the County of Spotsylvania and bounded as follows (Viz) by Land of Charles JENKINS, by Land of Thomas SHARPE, by Land of John LAMBERT, by Land of Benjamin DAWSON, by Land of David CHEVES and by Land of the said John WHITE containing Three hundred acres be the same more or less (it being the same land he and the above named John WHITE conveyed sometime since to the above named James BARTLETT)Together with all Houses buildings woods underwoods waters water courses and every emolument to the said Land belonging or thereto appertaining. To have and to hold the said Three hundred acres more or less to the only proper use and behoof of him the said John WHITE his heirs and assigns forever and furthermore the said James BARTLET and Betsy Row his wife do hereby covenant and agree to and with the said John WHITE his heirs, Excr Admr & assigns that they the said James BARTLETT and Betsy Row his wife their heirs Executors and Admrs shall warrant and forever defend the above granted Land and premises against the Claim or Claims of all persons whatsoever. In Witness whereof the said James BARTLETT and Betsy Row his wife have hereunto set their hands and affixed their seals the day and year first above written.
