This indenture made the twenty eighth day of December of the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fourteen between JAMES BARTLETT of the County of White and State of Tennessee of the one part, and JOSHUA BARTLETT of the county and state aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that the said JAMES BARTLET for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred sixty seven dollars to him in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath given, granted, bargained, sold, __, conveyed and conferred and by these presents do give, grant, bargain, sell, ___, convey and confirm unto the said JOSHUA BARTLETT all that certain tract or parcel of land ___ situated, lying and being in the county and state aforementioned on the Falling Water of the Cany Forks including where the said JOSHUA BARTLETT now lives, part of a tract of land granted by the State of Tennessee to the said JAMES BARTLETT by No. 3650 for 227 acres and dated the 17th of January 1812. Beginning at a white oak on the South side of the creek near a road it being the Beginning corner of the aforesaid grant No. 3650 running West 19 poles to a stake thence South 136 poles to a stake on the side of a mountain in the line of the original tract then East with the same 86 poles to an ash then South 72 poles with the Mountain and the line of the original tract to a poplar and hickory thence East 126 poles to a white oak thence North 29 poles to a ___ poplar at the foot of Cumberland Mountain thence North 62 degrees West with the mountain 43 poles to a poplar thence North 35 degrees West with the mountain 8 poles to a hickory, thence North 62 degrees with the mountain 143 poles to the beginning, containing 167 acres to have and to hold the before recited land and bargained premises with all and singular the rights, profits, enulments, herediments, and appurtenances of and to this same belonging or in anywise appertaining to the only proper use of him the said JOSHUA BARTLETT, his heirs and assignees forever and the said JAMES BARTLETT for himself, his heirs, executors, administrators doth acknowledge and agree to and with the said JOSHUA BARTLETT his heirs, assignes that the afore cited land and bargain premises herewith forever warrant and defend against the rights title claim interest and demand of all and any person or persons whatsoever claiming by from and for himself or his heirs, and no further, but be is expressly understood by and between the parties to these presents that should there be any older and better title for the said tract of land herein conveyed that the said JAMES BARTLETT is not to be liable in any respect whatsoever but the said JOSHUA BARTLETT is to take the said tract of land at his own risque in testimony whereof the said JAMES BARTLETT hath hereunto set his hand and affixed his seal the day and year above written.

The due insertion of the pregoing deed of conveyance was this day acknowledged in open court by JAMES BARTLET for the purpose therein mentioned and ordered to be recorded let it be registered. Given at office 10th day of January 1815.
