Jefferson County Kentucky Deed Book S, pp. 140-141. This indenture made this twenty first day of October one thousand eight hundred and twenty between Joseph BARTLETT and Nancy his wife of the county of Floyd and state of Indiana of the one part and Fielding NEILL of the county of Shelby and state of Kentucky of the other part witnesseth that the said Joseph and Nancy his wife for and in consideraton of the sum of one thousand dollars current money of the United States to them paid and secured to be paid as follows five hundred and sixty dollars paid on the day of 18 two hundred and twenty dollars secured to be paid on the first day of March 1820 and the like sum on the first day of March 1821 the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have granted bargained and sold aliened released enfeoffed conveyed and confirmed and by these presents do grant bargain and sell alien release enfeoff convey and confirm unto the said Fielding NEILL and to his heirs and assigns one certain tract or parcel of land with all the appurtenances lying and being in the county of Jefferson and state last mentioned and on the waters of brush and cain run and bounded as follows beginning at two sugartrees and small walnut sapling, thence south one hundred and ten poles to white hickory poplar and dogwood corner to John CARMICLE’s land, thence south seventy eight degrees west one hundred and twenty poles to an ash elm and walnut sapling, thence north one hundred & twenty poles to two beeches, thence east one hundred and nineteen poles to the beginning supposed to contain ninety acres and all the estate right title claim interest and fee of them the said Joseph BARTLETT and Nancy his wife of in and to the same to have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land with all the appurtenances unto the said NEILL and to his heirs and assigns to his and their only proper use and behoof forever and the said Joseph BARTLETT and Nancy his wife do covenant and agree with the said NEILL and his heirs and assigns that they the said Joseph and wife are seized of a good sure perfect and indefeasible estate in fee simple of in and to the said tract or parcel of land with all the appurtenances that they have pull power and lawful authority to sell and convey the same unto the said NEILL and to his heirs and assigns forever and that they the said Joseph and Nancy his wife will and their heirs executors and administrators shall warrant and forever defend the said tract or parcel of land with all the appurtenances unto the said NEILL and to his heirs and assigns against all and every person or persons whatever lawfully claiming or to claim the same. In witness whereof the said Joseph and Nancy his wife have hereto set their hands and seals the day and year first written.
and delivered { in the presence of } I the clerk of the County Court of Jefferson County in the state of Kentucky do certify that on this day Joseph BARTLETT and Nancy his wife came personally before me in my office and acknowledge and delivered the foregoing deed as and for their act and deed that I examined the said Nancy priv[at]ely and apart from the said Joseph her husband and having shewn and explained the said deed to her she again acknowledged and delivered the same deed as and for her act and deed and declared she had done so of her own free will and consent without the threats persuasions or compulsion of her said husband and was willing the said deed should be recorded and did not wish to retract her said acknowledgments and that I have recorded the same in my office. Witness my hand this 21st day of October 1820.
