TAX BOOKS OF HENRY COUNTY, KY 1800-1827

BARTLETT

The columns are: Page Number; Date Rec’d List; Persons Name Charged with Tax; Number Acres of Land: 1st Rate, 2nd Rate, 3rd Rate; County In Which Land Lies; Watercourse; In Whose Name Entered; In Whose Name Surveyed; In Whose Name Patented; White Males over 21; White Males 16-21; Blacks over 16; Total Blacks; Horses & Mares; Stud Horses; Rates of covering season; Retail Stores; Tavern License; Value of Town Lots; Wheel Carriages.

Unless otherwise noted, the name shown after the land description is the “entry” name and was usually the same as the name for “surveyed” and “patented”. The next number listed after the four-digit count of individuals, is for horses and mares and in most cases was the only additional column filled in. Any other completed columns are noted.

Abbreviations for some of the watercourses:
LKY is Little Kentucky (River)
DC is Drennon Creek

The entry below would read:
Page 2 (of book), Mar. 29, 1800, Edmund Bartlett, 200 acres 2nd rate land in Henry County, on the Little Kentucky River; entered, surveyed and patented by Edward Herndon; 1 white male over 21, 0 males 16-21, 4 blacks over 16, 5 total blacks; 4 horses/mares.

NOTE: I've got to re-do this page. After obtaining photocopies of these lists, I found errors I had made, and will get it back up just as soon as possible. All 27 years will be here, so it will take a little time.
