THE CORN STALK MILITIA OF KENTUCKY
1792-1811

Militias were established early in Kentucky, their purpose being somewhat like our National (or State) guard today. All males over the age of sixteen, except for officers of the court, ministers, printers and bank cashiers, were expected to serve or be fined.
