JOSHUA BARTLETT of White County, Tennessee served in the War of 1812 for the period from Oct. 4, 1813 to Jan. 4, 1814 in the 1st Regiment of West Tennessee Militia (Wynne’s), Capt. Holleman’s Company. Bounty Land Warrant 88729-40-50 relates to the application of Winney BARTLETT, his widow, which was accepted Nov. 17, 1852. The following is a copy of her application.

County of White }

      On this 31st day of January A. D. one Thousand Eight hundred and fifty two personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace within and for the County and State aforesaid, WINNEY BARTLET, aged 84 years, a resident of White County in the State of Tennessee who being duly sworn according to Law, declares that she is the widow of JOSHUA BARTLET deceased, who was a private in the company commanded by Captain James HULLOWMAN [HOLLEMAN], in the 1st Regiment of Tennessee Militia commanded by Col. John K. WINN in the War of 1812, against the Creek Indians; that her husband drafted at Williamsburg, Jackson County, on or about the 20th day of September A. D. 1813, for the term of three months, and was honorable discharged at Fort Deposit on the 20th day of January A. D. 1814.

      She further states, that she was married to the said JOSHUA BARTLET, in Maddison [sic] County, Kentucky, on the ____ day of _____ A. D. by one STONE, a minister of the Gospel, and that her name, before her said marriage was WINNY WILLIAMS, that her said husband died at White County, Tennessee on the 22nd day of april, A. D. 1831, and that she is still a widow, & his discharge lost.

      She makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the Bounty land to which she may be entitled under the Act passed 28th September 1850.
