The difficulty in sorting out the younger and older Isaac is obvious. If the Isaac who served as a sponsor to the child of William Cots and Maria Fonteyn (24 Dec 1731) is the same as the one born 1722 or 1725 according to the Bogardus-Vantine Bible, then he was just nine (or six) years old at the time. An Isaac Fonteyn also paid taxes starting in 1737 in Rombouts Precinct (fifteen years old?).
This older Isaac disappears in 1748 from the tax lists and in 1741 from the Fishkill First Reformed Church records. It is possible that he moved. It is possible that he, not Jan, is the father of the Isaac who married Mollie Bogardus in 1742, but he did not serve as sponsor to any of their children. Also Isaac and Mollie named their children using the Dutch naming conventions, and Isaac doesn't appear in the correct order to be the grandfather. There was an older Isaac because the Isaac who married Mollie was named Isaac Vantyn Jr., Y.M. according to one transcription I've seen.
