Dinkel, George E.

George E. Dinkel 83, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away Saturday, August 13, 2005, at Veteran's Hospital in Indianapolis. George was born in Terre Haute, IN on December 13, 1921, son of the late Homer and Anna Dinkel.
He was a graduate of Terre Haute's Gerstmeyer Technical High School in 1939, when he began his career as a draftsman in the lumber business. He entered the U.S. Army on November 17, 1942, and served in the Asiatic-Pacific theater, where he was awarded three bronze stars; as well as in the Philippine Liberation, where he was awarded one bronze star. He was discharged on December 26, 1945, and returned to civilian life in various responsibilities of drafting, sales and estimating.
On June 26, 1948, he married Marian (Zurschmied) Dinkel, who preceded him in death in 2002. He retired from Hall & House Lumber Co. in September 2001, after 59 years in the lumber business. He was a charter member of St. Michael's Catholic Church since 1948 and served on various committees, clubs and projects in the early to middle growth years of the church.
George was a kind, gentle, faithful, holy and generous man and will be missed by his family and friends. He loved his family, his Catholic community and his many pets through the years, and enjoyed spending time with all. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Fred and Jack Dinkel of Terre Haute.
He is survived by his sons, Thomas (Lisa), Robert, Anthony (Janine), Mark and Andrew; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 17, 2005 at St. Michael's Catholic Church on West 30th and Tibbs, with calling beginning at 9:30 a.m. Friends may also call from 4 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 16, 2005 at Stevens Mortuary. A special Rosary service, to which all are invited, will begin at 7:30 p.m. Entombment will be at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael's Catholic Church, Carmelite Monastery, or Disabled American Veterans.
