Lot 6 -- Miller's Lot
Lot 6 was originally assigned to Proprietor Robert Burnett of Scotland in 1682. He patented it as 608 acres to his agent, James Miller. Miller deeded it to Governor Robert Barclay in 1687/8. when Barclay died, the lot went to five proprietary shareholders: John Johnson, George Willocks, John Harrison, Cornelius Longfield and Michael Hawden. they sold it in 1703 to Dennis Van Duyn and Guisbert DeHart.
DeHart sold the eastern half of the lot that year to Gerardus Beekman. In 1708, Beekman sold that part of the lot to Charles Fonteyn. The farm appeared on the 1735 tax list under the name "Charles Fontyn Sr."
"Charles Fonteyn" was a founding member of Six Mile Run Reformed Church in 1710. (See the list at the end of this chapter.) He was married to "Helenae Rynierse" (Maghdaleentie Reyniersen Van Hengel). Her name also appears in the earliest Six Mile Run Church records. Her brother Ouke owned land in Middlebush. She was also the sister of Teunis Reyniersen Van Hengel, who apears on the 1745 tax list as "Teunis Ryneirse" with 100 acres. The will of "Charles Fontine" left to his oldest son Charles "the land upon the Raritan River, Somerset county, adjoining land where son Johannes now lives, which joins land of son Abraham." (44)
On the 1745 tax list, the land in this location belonged to "Dereck Rapelye" (Dirck Rappelyea), owner of a 320-acre farm. Rappelyea's will stated he purchased the farm from "Richard Carman, etc." . . .

Lib. E, p. 508.• Research Note 1416, 1735 - , Lot 5, Somerset, New Jersey
Lot 5 -- Bridgmen's Lot
The lot next to Bainbridge's was originally identified as Gershom Bowne's, but the 504 acres went to Governor Gawen Lawrie in 1685. He sold it as 554 acres to Robert Bridgemen. In 1711, Bridgemen sold it to Walter Thonge; however, Brecknell did not believe Thonge occupied the land because of wording in the deed. Early land transfers for Lot 5 are missing.
The 1735 tax list shows Charles, John (Johannes) and Abraham Fontyn--sons of Charles, of Lot 6--along the river up to Seeley's Brook, where a relative, Jacus (Jacques) Fontyn, had a mill and 350 acres. Brecknell said it is obvious these farms were in Lot 5. The brook was its approximate boundary.
Three other probable members of the Fontyne/Vantine family appear on the 1735 tax list:
Fontyn, Jacob, 120 acres
Fontyn, Reynier, 100 acres
Montanye, Tuenes, 100 acres
On the 1745 tax list, "Beniemen Fonten" is listed with 9 acres.

The following bit of history (and the cite) was forwarded to me yesterday.
The location of 'this Indian warfare' is supposed to be Sussex Co., NJ.
Can anyone provide any additional information? Who was Vantine and
especially who was 'the lad called Titsort?'
> .... the General Assembly on August 12, 1758, cited John Vantine and a
> lad called Titsort, and nine others who accompanied them, for bravery in
> this Indian warfare. The men were given $10 each, the lad $30 and
> Vantine 20 Spanish dollars. Vantine and this lad were each given a
> silver medal of the size of $1, on which was the figure of a prostrate

charset="iso-8859-1"
Cynthia,
Rand, in her recent "Some Descendants of Jan Aertsen Vanderbilt" has Jan Aris Vanderbilt (grandson of the progenitor), bp. Flatbush, Aug 11, 1678; m. Ida SUYDAM. Her reference is the Holland Society Yearbook, 1897, p. 189. Unfortunately, I don't have access to a copy.
Now, back to my earlier post regarding Albert Coert Van VOORHEES and his/their wives.
Yes, there were TWO Albert Coert(en) Van VOORHEES. The younger was grandson of the elder, son of his son Coert. - From The Van VOORHEES Genealogy. Albert Coert Van VOORHEES (I) had three wives, with children by the first only (Sarah Willemse CORNELL, m. date ?, d. 1736); m2. May 15, 1743, Willempje SUYDAM; m3. Dec 1, 1744, Ida VANDERBILT. His son Coert m. Annetje Van Dyck and had a son, Albert Coert VOORHEES (II), b. Aug 1, 1716. He d. May 14, 1747 (w) - Apr 14, 1748 (p). This is from the Van VOORHEES Genealogy.
Repeating my earlier post:
16. Ida SUYDAM, bp. Apr 6, 1678, NYDRC (New Utrecht) (sp. Jan Vinge and Tryntje Idens); d. ifw; m. > 1707, Jan Aertsen/Aertse/Aartsen/Arison Vanderbilt(V# 6),(bp. Aug 11, 1687) son of Aris Janse Vanderbilt (the IMMIGRANT) and Hilletje Remsen (Vander Beeck). She m2. Dec 1, 1744, Albert Coerte Van Voorhees).
This is the daughter of Hendrick Rycken (Van) SUYDAM, the immigrant.
1251. Willemtje SUYDAM, b. 1723; m. May 15 (or 4), 1743, (as w2.) Albert Coerte Van Voorhees, of Flatlands, son of Coert Stevensen Voorhees and Marretje Gerritse Van Couwenhoven. He was m1. Sarah Willemse Cornel, of Flatbush.
Willemtje is the gr-g-dau of Hendrick, the IMMIGRANT. Her parents were:125. Ryck SUYDAM, b. 1703, Flatbush (or NJ); d. Nov 7, 1798, Oct 14, 1784 (w) - Nov 8, 1798 (p), age 95, Pleasant Plains (Franklin Park), Somerset Co, NJ, ifw; m1. ca. 1723, Elizabeth Willemse; (bp. May 11, 1712, Freehold, NJ), dau of Dirk Willemse and Jannitje Van Arsdale; m2. Mary Fontyn/Fonteyn. Farmer. 1728, moved to Pleasant Plains, (now Franklin Park, Somerset Co, NJ). Ca. 1728, bought 158 acres from Wilcox. L. Six Mile Run, along the Somerset/ Middlesex Co line, NJ. Original owner of the old Suydam Homestead, at Pleasant Plains, NJ Lot # 7, Franklin Twp, on Six Mile Run. Progenitor of the Somerset SUYDAMS.
NOW, it becomes clearer, (I think) - Ida SUYDAM was w3. (as the widow, Ida VANDERBILT). The only problem is that if Willemtje is properly identified, she was 23 when she married Albert. Albert Coert (I) then married Willemtje's great aunt, age 66. Most peculiar.
Perhaps the previous genealogies have mistaken Albert Coert (I) (b. ca. 1673) and Albert Coert (II) (b. 1716). I would prefer to place the second and third wives with Albert Coert (II), if Ida VANDERBILT is NOT the widow Ida SUYDAM/VANDERBILT, but another Ida VANDERBILT.
Otherwise, if Ida is the widow, I would like to place Willemtje as the wife of Albert Coert (II), and leave Ida with Albert Coert (I). This would make his second wife, Ida, about his age.
We will have to wait for the next volume of the Van VOORHEES Genealogy to see who they think Albert Coert (II) married. Has it been recently published?
Anyone else want to jump in?
