Hi Carol, while searching for my Van Tine ancestors I came across your post on the Van Tines. My grandmother was Magdalene Van Tine, and I can trace her line of Van Tines to Ephraim Van Tine who married Mary Hageman. I know the family came from the Middlesex, Somerset area of NJ, Ephraim's son Peter was bron in 1789 NJ. I'm searching for information on Ephraim, his parents, sibs etc. I do know that the Van Tine name was originated from France with Charles Fonteyn (Fontaine) who was born in 1630. If you have any information on
Ephraim Van Tine's parents, sibs lineage I would sure appreciate it.
Hope to hear from you,
Linda Mauregard

Note: There are two Isaac Vantines shown on Mss #829
with identical service. One is listed as "widow's son."
Regarding the above entry, there are two possible Isaacs alive
at this time, but the other's father, Ephraim, is still alive
in 1783 while this Isaac's father, Charles, died about 1766.
There is a strong possibility that two Isaacs lived in the same
area at the same time and that their families are mixed
together. Isaac and Anne Schuurman Van Tine definitely lived in
the area, but is the Isaac who shows up with "Altie" in the
deed records and one christening the same one?

Cornelius and Nellie Ames Van Tine's daughter Betsey was the baby the soldiers made a pet of when in the winter of 1779-80 her parents kept four of them from the regiment that was encamped on the mountains.
She married Thomas Furral and during the war of "12" lived in the house with grand-mother while both their husbands were in the war. The house was on the old Stonykill road; before sun set they would nail up their windows, one afternoon they saw a man pass the house which frightened them so, that they walked to Fishkill Village to their Mothers, each with a babe in their arms. Late in life Betsey and Thomas moved near Utica New York.
