Back from photographing that church in Derbyshire

Still not located my notebooks, but found another note that James and Jane were buried in the same grave at Blyth Cemetery, Grave No. 1612.

Dear Carol

I have just located the notebook I used in the 1990's for the
Northumberland families, when I was visiting the Record Office at Morpeth (now closed!).

On one visit I checked Microfilm No. 892, Blyth Cemetery, and my notes include:

"Jane STEPHENSON, age 93, 7 Tate Street, Blyth, 29/1/1939, consecrated, 1612."

(Graves are either in consecrated or non-consecrated sections of a cemetery).

29/1/1939 of course is 1/29/1939 to you.

I especially underlined the 1 of 29/1/1939 4 times to stress it was January. No idea why now. Probably bad writing and I had to use a magnifying glass.

By the way, since Morpeth closed, the records have gone to Woodhorn which is nowhere near a railway station, so I cannot visit it now. I don't drive a car, and go everywhere by train, wherever possible. Sometimes copies of microfilms are held at other places, and it's a matter of tracking them down

Regards

Maurice

Story told about Joseph:

He was quite a gambler - I have a picture of him standing in front of a house he won gambling. But the same night he won the house, my grandmother Helen Golightly was born. She had a small heart-shaped birthmark on her chest - and Joseph had had a run of hearts which won the house. So Minnetta was furious with Joseph thinking that he had caused the baby to be born "marked".

Dear Carol

Now had time to look up my notes about HEPPLE.

William HEPPLE (born at Callerton, baptised at Newburn 29th June 1783, illegitimate son of Hannah MAJORBANKS, by John HEPPLE).

In this case William took his father's surname

Whereas his son George took his mother's surname

Hi

I think we're talking about the same William Hepple, I'd be interested
to know more about George Golighty - did he survive childhood?

My William was married Nov 1st 1804 in Newburn to Elizabeth Middleton (born Bedlington 1780, living in Stannington parish, daughter of Thomas Middleton and Eleanor Smart)

William and Elizabeth had two sons George Middleton Hepple (born
10/3/1806, Plessey, Stannigton parish, died 7/10/1832, South Shields -
in the cholera epidemic) and James Hepple, born 14/9/1809 in Plessey

both George and James were baptised in Stannington AND Newburn parishes.

William and Elizabeth are on the 1841 and the 1851 census living in
Temple Town, Westoe, South Shields.

I'm descended from George Middleton Hepple through his only child (also George Middleton Hepple, who was born after his father's death)

Let me know if you want to know more

Paul

Subject: GEORGE GOLIGHTLY WHO MARRIED ISABELLA RIPPON
Date: Sat, 2 Jun 2007 00:13:34 +0100
From: Maurice Boddy <maurice.boddy@btinternet.com>
To: Van Tine Family <cyocom@earthlink.net>

The clue to George's origin is in the 1861 Census, where he says he was born at Callerton, Northumberland

George was born at Callerton 21st June 1804, and baptised at Newburn 22nd July 1804.

The Baptism Register at Newburn records:

"George was the illegitimate son of Margaret Golightly of Washington by William Hepple pitman of this parish"

Going back further:

Margaret and Isabella twin daughters of George Golightly were born at North Biddick and baptised at Washington on 1st February 1775.

Re James Cole STEPHENSON and his wife Jane formerly GOLIGHTLY

James was buried at Blyth Cemetery 19th May 1920 (which agrees with your date of his death)

But I have Jane buried at Blyth Cemetery 19th January 1939 (which disagrees with your date of death 26th March 1939)

I can offer no explanation for this as I don't have her death
certificate. Somewhere I must have my notes for Blyth Cemetery burials, and I must try to find them. Have you a copy of Jane's Death Certificate?

I haven't checked other entries in detail. It's getting late at night
here and I am away on Saturday.

Regards

Maurice Boddy at York (England)

General Notes (Wife)

>Name note: letter from Edward Puthoff, Nov 1992

Mr. Puthoff may have misinterpreted some of the data in his possession. I feel that the funeral book for Sarah Jane showed that she had been married twice. I checked Christian and Perry counties for evidence of this, but did not find it. I will check Montgomery Co., Illinois next and census records.
