!PENSION: A minister of the M.E. Church that her husband of the aforesaid J. P. Jenkins died on the day above mentioned that her name before her said, marriage was Eliza Hussong and that she has remained a widow since the death of her said husband as will ? appear by reference to the proof hereunto annexed. And she further states of her said marriage. She further states that at his death her said husband left surviving him the following named children who were under 16 yrs of age 1. Minervia A. Jenkins age 15 yrs. 2. Tillitha E. Jenkins, 13 yrs. 3. Sarah Jane Jenkins 11 yrs. 4. Ezekiel Jenkins 9 yrs. 5. Eliza C. 7 yrs. 6. John Jenkins 5 yrs. 7. William T. 2 yrs old. 8. Rosanna aged seven months. and the said children reside at her house and at this date of his death were severally of the ages herein set forth. She also declares that she has not in any been engaged in or aided or abetted the Rebellion in the U.S. and that she is now in ? of any pension under any act of Congress. State of Iowa, Story County, On this 26th day of OCT AD 1863, personally appeared before me in and for said county and State above named Eliza Jenkins who after being duly sworn according to said declare and says that she is aged 39 years that she is a resident of Story County Iowa and that she is a widow of James P. Jenkins who was a Private in Company A. commanded by Capt. Houston of the 23rd Regiment of Volunteer Inf. of Iowa, commanded by Col. Dewey in the war with the so called Confederate States and that she has not been in any way engaged in or aided or abetted the existing Rebellion in the U.S. and that her said husband enlisted at Des Moines Iowa on or about the 11th day of AUGUST AD 1862 for the term of three yrs and continued in actual service in said war for the term of two and 3/4 months and died at Arcadia Hospital in Missouri on the 2nd day of November A.D. 1862 the cause of death was fever (measles) contracted while in service of the United States. That she was married to the said James P. Jenkins on the 6 day of July AD 1843 at Clay Co. Ind. by one Joseph H. Harriman. Another witness to the children's births and Eliza's marriage was Rosanna Hussong. Rosanna stated that Eliza was married to J. P. Jenkins on 6 JULY 1843 in Clay Co. Indiana. Rosanna Hussong states that she is 66 yrs of age when she signed the affadavit for Eliza Jenkins in Clay Co. Indiana. Rosanna stated that she was also the mother of Eliza Jenkins. Sarah Jane Jenkins married Jasper M. Dickinson on 5 JULY 1867 and married by R. H. Mitchell, Co. Judge of Story Co. Iowa. Two witnesses in the State of Indiana and County of Clay on 20th day of December AD 1862. Eliza Jenkins and James P. Jenkins were legally married at the house of John Hussong in Clay County Indiana on the 6th day of July 1843 by one Joseph H. Harryman a minister of the gospel. That her name previous to said marriage was Eliza Hussong. The two witnesses are Ezekiel Jenkins and Henry Rule. Joseph H. Harriman was a minister of the M.E. Church. Witnessed by Dr. A. !OBIT: THE AMES INTELLIGENCER--Page 8, col. #4--Mrs. Eliza Jenkins--The death of Mrs. Eliza Jenkins at Ontario, Aug. 2, 1909, removes from among us one of Story County's oldest pioneers. Mrs. Jenkins came here in 1852. She was the daughter of one of the soldiers of the War of 1812, John Hussong, who served through the was in the army of the South under General Jackson and who died at his home near Ontario, Feb. 12, 1861. Mrs. Jenkins was a woman of ability and was a conselor for all of her friends. While during recent years she was unable to leave her home, often her friends frequently gathered to talk with her and to visit and she was an inspiration to all who knew her. Mrs. Jenkins was born in Knox Co. Tenn. on August 27, 1823. When quite a young girl she moved with her parents to Indiana where she grew to womanhood. She was married on July 6, 1843 to James Pricey Jenkins. When she and her husband came to Story County in 1853 the settled on a farm near Ontario before that village had been named and she had continued her residence here since that time. Her husband enlisted in the war of the Rebellion where he gave his live in the defense of the flag. She was the mother of nine children, five of whom are living; Emelin Crumwell Jenkins of Russell County, Kansas, Sarah Jane Dickenson of Ontario, E. Jenkins of Gilbert, Eliza Truesdale of Graettinger and William Jenkins of Alta, Iowa. Four of the children passed to the great beyond, John Feb. 13, 1863; Rosie, Feb. 16, 1863; Jessie, Dec. 28, 1870 and Marivia Ann, May 12, 1908. The funeral services were conducted at Ontario yesterday afternoon by the Rev. Johnson, pastor of the United Brethren Church. In his obit Mr. Johnson said that Mrs. Jenkins always lived faithful to God and believed in the risen Saviour and was satisfied to trust him in her hour of death. She was a faithful wife and a loving mother.

In his obit Mr. Johnson said that Mrs. Jenkins always lived faithful to God and believed in the risen Saviour and was satisfied to trust him in her hour of death. She was a faithful wife and a loving mother.
