This census seems to indicate that Joseph Somerville was married twice. His first wife or Amanda's mother was Elizabeth Lee and his second wife might have been Elizabeth Robinson or perhaps Robinson's sister-in-law maiden name unknown. On the other hand, there may be a mistake on Amanda's Death Certificate, and this was the only marriage, but Elizabeth would have been a very young mother! There was an extensive quarrel over Joseph Somerville's estate which detailed when he died and the names of his heirs.

The petition stated that Joseph Sommerville died around May 1, 1847 and at that time owned real estate in section 24, township 11, range 10 of 80 acres and in 25-11-10 of 40 acres. The first tract he had purchased from Jonathan Stites and the second from USA. Joseph died leaving the above as his heirs and since his death Eliza Jane had sold her interest to John N. Sommerville. Elizabeth was listed as Joseph's widow and entitled to one third of the real estate. Richard C. Talbott was appointed the guardian of the minor heirs for this partition. David Montaue, Seth Lowe and Daniel Swem were appointed make this partition, which they do and report to the court with a map of same. Feb. 1848." There are several other mentions, but these are the most important.
Research Notes (Husband)
Census says born in Scotland; Descendants of Joseph Somerville says born in 1792 in Belfast, Ireland.
General Notes (Wife)
Although Elizabeth is buried in Spring Hill Cemetery, I think she probably died in Rush Co, IN.

Hi,
I moved 6 months ago from New Jersey to North Carolina, and have had no time
to do any research until recently. While doing some internet searches, I found your submissions to world connect at rootsweb. At http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&id=I6360&db= cyocom you have a reference to Amanda Somerville's death certificate stating that Joseph (her father...) was born in Scotland.
A biography for William SOMERVILLE, Amanda's brother, has Joseph born in
Ireland. The Somerville bible for Landolf states Belfast, Ireland. Just thought you might like to know of some conflicting information.
A gentlemen that has been researching LEE's in Fleming County, KY claims that
Randolph LEE, father of Joseph SOMERVILLE's wife Elizabeth LEE, is not from
the Lee's of VA, but an emigrant of Scotland. He is impatiently waiting for
me to send him a copy of Emma Donnel's paper "The Lee and Hood Families",
which I will do as soon as I find the right box. He hopes to trace some of
Randolph LEE's children back to find clues for the Scotland link. When I get
the information from him concerning Randolph and brother I will let you know
the details if you are interested.
Best Regards,
Mike Michel
PS, here is the text of William Somerville's biography:

HISTORY OF RUSH COUNTY, INDIANA: From the earliest time to the present,
with biographical sketches, notes, etc. Illustrated; Chicago: Brant &
Fuller, 1883. p. 363. Fleming County.
WILLIAM A. SOMMERVILL, one of the pioneer farmers of Anderson Township,
was born in Fleming County, Ky., April 23, 1819, the son of Joseph and
Elizabeth (Lee) Sommervill, and is of Irish origin. His father, a native
of Ireland, was born near Belfast about 1792, and came to America about
1801, and settled in Fleming County, Ky., but afterward removed to Decatur
County, Ind., where his death occurred May 1, 1847. The mother of Mr.
Sommervill was born in Fleming County, Ky., about 1792, and died in Rush
County, November 22, 1860. The subject of this biography is the eldest of
six children and received a common school education. In 1838, he began
serving an apprenticeship at cabinet making and after completing the same,
he continued this occupation for himself, about twenty years. September 1,
1842, our subject came to Rush County and settled near where he now
resides. He now owns 310 acres of well improved land, and is one of the
most successful farmers in this township. The marriage of Mr. Sommervill
occurred September 7, 1842, to Miss Eliza Hood, born in Fleming County,
Ky., October, 1819, daughter of Samuel and Isabella (Lee) Hood. To this
union are three children, viz.: J. Samuel, Isabella J. and Ira A. Mr.
Sommervill was formerly a Whig, but is now a Republican, and cast his first
presidential vote for William H. Harrison. Mr. and Mrs. Sommervill are
members of the United Presbyterian Church.

Long Time Resident of This County Leaves Host of Relatives and Friends
Landolf Watson Somerville was born in Flemingsburg, Ky, Aug 19, 1825, and

childhood; Lide Bosley, Emma Somerville, Addie Clark and Sallie B. Riche of

He came to this state when a young man and settled in Decatur county, later
coming to this county where he spent over 50 years.
He united with the U P church when a young man, and about 25 years ago he
placed his membership with the M E church remaining there until death called

since then he has been quite feeble, yet able to be around until the last,
when the end came without warning.
The funeral was held at the house Wednesday[sic] afternoon conducted by Rev. Baldridge, assisted by Foster and Stewart. Burial beside the remains of this wife in the local cemetery. His only living sister, Mrs Amanda Montgomery of Brazil was unable to attend, but her daughters, Mrs Dinkle and Miss Frank Montgomery, were here, also Mr. and Mrs Bergdoffer of Laurel and John Bergdoffer of Connersville.
