Bismarck Tribune, The (ND) - May 20, 1995

Deceased Name: Glenn Vantine

Glenn C. Vantine, 82, Mesa, Ariz., died of cancer, May 17, 1995, in Mesa. A memorial service will be at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at East Mesa Christian Church. Services will be at 11 a.m. June 17 at First Presbyterian Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Mark Bayert officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.

Glenn was born in Grandin on July 9, 1912. He received a bachelor of arts degree in paint chemistry from North Dakota State University in 1934. He married Leola Pforr in June 1935. They were a loving and devoted couple for almost 60 years.

Glenn, with his brother, Jack, established the Vantine Paint and Glass Company in Bismarck in 1935. He served as the company's president and general manager for 42 years. Glenn was devoted to the Bismarck community and provided leadership to many community organizations during the 47 years he and Leola lived in Bismarck. He was a lifelong active member of the Lions Club and served as president of the Bismarck Lions Club and as district governor for North Dakota and Saskatchewan. In 1981, Glenn was named Lion of the Year by the Bismarck Lion's Club, and in 1992 was named a Melvin Jones Fellow. The fellowship is the highest honor conferred by the Lions Club International Foundation.

Glenn was a member of the Bismarck Board of Education for nine years and president of Bismarck Junior College for many years. He was also a past president of the Missouri Valley Council of Boy Scouts, the Bismarck Chamber of Commerce, the Bismarck Baseball Association, and the Man-Dak League. Glenn served for many years as a director of First Federal Savings and Loan, the North Dakota Savings and Loan League and Medcenter One in Bismarck. In 1963, he was awarded the Silver Beaver in Scouting, one of scouting's highest awards for adults.

Of primary importance to Glenn throughout his life were his church and his spiritual life. He became an elder in the First Presbyterian Church in Bismarck in 1944. He served 22 years on the session of the church, and in 1981, was awarded the church's Care Citation.
When Glenn and Leola moved to Mesa in 1982, Glenn became active in the East Mesa Christian Church. During various periods since 1982, he served as chairman of the Board of Trustees, chairman of the capital campaign for construction of a fellowship building and president of the congregation. At the time of his death, he was treasurer of the congregation.

During the 13 years he lived in Mesa, Glenn was deeply involved in the El Mirage Activities Association and served as the association's treasurer for 11 years.

Glenn is survived by his wife, Leola; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Carol Vantine, and James and Barbara Vantine, all of Minneapolis; six grandchildren; his brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Thelma Vantine, Bismarck; one sister, Faye Fladland, Grand Forks; and many, many friends and other loved ones.

Glenn Vantine was devoted to his wife, family and friends, and throughout his life, worked to make a difference in the lives of others and the institutions of his community. In the words of his sons: ""Glenn was a good citizen of the kingdom of God on Earth.''
