QUANAH - J.T. Vantine Jr., 91, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Clinton Young officiating. Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday in Vista Cemetery at Truth or Consequences, N.M., by Price-Jackson Funeral Home.

Mr. Vantine was born in Medicine Mound. He earned a master's degree at Texas A&M University. He was a geneticist for the Wilson County Soil Conservation in Tennessee and a member of the Lions Club.

In 1955 he moved to Quanah. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and a former Sunday school teacher.

Mr. Vantine was married to Reba Hobbs in 1938. She died in 1980. He was married to Velma Kate Moseley in 1995.

Survivors include his wife; a son, James Lee Vantine of Quanah; a sister, Blanch V. Parks of Midland; a brother, Wilbur Harris Vantine of McAllen; and a granddaughter.

The family suggest memorials be to Hardeman County Memorial Hospital.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

I am directly related to a VanTine family of Chester and surrounding area. Inthe 1880 Census John Larkin VanTine lived in Chester Pa. He had a son William and Albert and a brother David who lived in the Marcus Hook area. His wife was Nancy Rowlins. He was a laborer. This could be your guy

I do not know of him hanging himself but I will contact some people that are searching this family with me. There was a John Raub VanTine that we have no death date for but he did disappeared early on.

Philadelphia, Aug. 17.--This morning, as the Philadelphia, Wilmington & Baltimore railroad steamer Felton was lying at the whart receiving passengers, a terrific explosion occurred on board and the boiler was bursted, injuring sixteen persons, some of whom, it is thought, will died.

There is something either wrong with the family structure -- I've got two families combined, or this family was really strange.

From a researcher's work on WorldConnect, Mattie Van Tyne married Leon Mather. The only Mattie I can find that remotely matches is a Mattie listed as daughter of O.H. Hall and Anna Hall in 1880 in Gunnison City, Colorado. This follows the other researcher's work.

Ok, so we've got this Mattie and then there's Katie who is listed with her ?mother married to William Chipman but without a Mattie in 1880 in Wisconsin.

George H. Van Tine disappears after 1860 -- so let's sort of think it's possible that he did something that requiring disappearing between 1860-1870. The oldest child was left with ??Martha but the youngest was small enough not to know what was going on and went with him and his?? other wife, second wife, plural wife? He then possibly reappears in Colorado as O.H. Hall.
Definitely strange.

till 1852; then sold it and went to California. In 1856, he returned to

York.

In 1860, William E. Chipman and Martha M. Chipman were living in
Momence, Kankakee, IL. They were ages 36 and 24, born in New York and
Vermont. They lived near to Chauncey Chipman. Mary J. Fender and Christopher
Fender, ages 18 and 19, were living in the home.

In 1870, William Chipman with wife Martha and daughter Catherine living
in Burlington, Racine, WI. Martha was 35, born in Vermont. Catherine was
17, born in Wisconsin. William was 47, born in Canada.

In 1880, William E. and Martha M. Chipman were still living in
Burlington. Kate S. Van Tine, age 27, was living with them. Her
relationship to William and Martha is not given. Martha was born in Vermont,
as were her parents. Kate was born in WI, her mother in VT and her father in
NY.

William apparently died in 1893. In 1900, Martha Chipman was head of
household in Burlington. Kate Vantine, listed as her daughter, was living
with her. Martha was born in Oct 1834 in Vermont. Kate was born in Dec
1853in Wisconsin. Martha is listed as a widow, having had one child, one
living. Helen D. Johnson, a niece born Jan 1887 in IL, age 13, was also
living with them. Her father was born in PA and her mother in WI.

They continued to live together in Burlington in 1910, but now Kate is
listed as Martha's niece. The census says that Martha had no children. In

In 1850, Hannah Rublee was 16 and living in Racine, Racine Co., WI with the
Isaiah Parker Family. Isaiah's mother Bathsheba Gray, was sister to Eloyce
Gray, who married Frances Rublee. Francis Manville Rublee married in Racine
Co. in

George Vantine was living in Racine in 1850, with his parents. He was a
grocer, age 30, born in NY.

In 1860, the Vantines were living in Rushford, Winnebago Co., WI with their
two children Kate and Mattie. George was 39, born in OH (probably an error.
He appears to have been born in NY) and Hannah 26, born in VT. Kate was 7
and Mattie 1, both born in WI.

Ova and Anna Hall were living in Carlos, MN in 1870. Ova was 33, born in
NY and Anna was 35, born in NY. In the home was Mattie Vantine, age 11,
born in WI.

In 1880, an O. H. Hall (or A. H.?), age 42, born in NY, was living in
Gunnison, Gunnison, CO. His wife Anna, age 42, was born in VT (as were both
of her parents) Children were Mattie, age 20; Leffie, age 9; both born in
WI; and Edith, age 6; Hoyt, age 5, both born in MN. This was a mining town.
O. H. Hall was a freighter.

In 1900, Ova Hoyt Hall and wife Hannah were living in Montrose, Montrose,
CO. Ova was born in Dec 1835 in NY. Hannah was born in May 1836? (she was
age 64) in Vermont . Her parents were also born in NY. Hannah had borne 8
children, 6 living. Ova was a farmer. Also in the home was daughter Edith
Eversole, born Oct 1873 in MN. She was divorced. Ova and Hannah had been
married for 33 years, which would put their marriage about 1867.

In 1910, Ova H. and Anna R. Hall were living in Santa Ana, Orange, CA.
They were 73 and 75. Theyhas been married for 42 years. It was Ova's first
marriage and Anna's second. Anna had 8 children, 5 living. Ova was born in
NY; his parents were born in VT. Anna was born in VT, as were her parents.
Daughter Edith H. Eversole was living with them. She was 36, divorced.

In 1920, Edith Eversole was head of household in Pasadena, Los Angeles, CA.

there is no wife in the home. Mattie Mather was head of her own household
in Montrose, CO. Her children Sybil and Eugene were living with her. She
also stated that she was married, for 17 years.

In 1910, Leon Mather was living in Utah. Irene S. Mathe, age 24; and
Noel E. Mather, age 19 were lodgers in a large establishment in Los Angeles,
CA. Irene was a information (?) manager for the electric railroad. Noel
was a clerk in a ticket office. I cannot find Mattie.

In 1920, Mattie was head of her own household in Pasedena, CA. She was
60, and divorced. Both Noel and Sybil were living with her. There were two
young children in the home, Sybil J. and Noeline, ages 4 and 2 They were
apparently Noel's children, as he is listed as widowed.

She married Leon Deming Mather, 1883 in CO, b. 23 Jun 1853 in Columbus,
Warren, PA, d. 11 Apr 1927 in Kansas City, Jackson, MO.



She married (2) Ova Hoyt Hall, abt 1867, b. Dec 1835 in NY, (son of Quincy
Hall and Almira Rublee) d. aft 1920 in Pasadena, Los Angeles, CA?.

Ova and Anna Hall were living in Carlos, MN in 1870. In 1900, they were

I think this is the widow of one of Daniel C. Vantine's sons:
George Henry Vantine or Newton Adams Vantine of which nothing further known. But she lives very close to Ashley D. Vantine which is another branch of the family. A puzzle.
