CHATFIELD, Mrs. Florence: Mrs. Chatfield did a great deal of work on the Vantine family in the 1950's and 1960's. When I corresponded with her, she was 89 years old and her eyesight was failing. She graciously sent her notebooks to me and allowed me to photocopy them. I found many additional sources of information through her work and am indebted to her for sharing it with me.

Yes, Carol, this is us!

I'm not sure what you mean by the confusion and Ira in Ohio. I just recently found out that Ira's parents, Richard I believe, abandoned him and he was left in the care of his grandparents. Perhaps, since he was living in NW PA he may have gone to Ohio for some reason.

I also noticed on the listing that the Lester is my father. His middle name was Snowden and that is missing. Also, Frances has now since died. The only living VanTine is Melvin. His son, Lynn, is the one who sent me much of the early information. My great Aunt Cora Falldine also has left memoirs of the early family history which I presently possess. There are some interesting stories in them.

Tell me, how does one go about getting the information updated as to our continuing family history. Many of my cousins have now entered the "grandparenting" years so there is much to be added, I am sure.

I am thrilled that I have found a discussion area. I just need time to get all caught up. Any help will be appreciated and I will be happy to help with any information on this end. I also have photos of Ira and Florence that I can upload if there is a forum for that.

MC. Fairbanks

Carol,

In my exhuberance, I went back and looked a the Listing again. I was just so excited to see some names that were familiar. Upon looking, however, I found some interesting things.

Chester VanTine is not listed as a child of Ira. Actually, he is a twin to my Dad, Lester. Chester is still alive today and living in Mt. Jewett, PA. I'm sorry that I said only Melvin was alive. I have a picture of Lester and Chester when they were children that is worth posting.

Another question that surfaces is "Foster". That is the first time I have heard of that name in any of the family. I would like to know more information on him.

I will need to ask some questions of my Mother who is still living (age 86) to see if she will be able to fill in some missing pieces. Also, the names of the women married to Ira are confusing. Ira remarried after his first wife's death. Both women are buried on either side of him in Kanesholm, PA cemetary. Nora, I believe, came from Elnora. I know my cousin, Elenor, is named after her. I will definitely check out this information.

Again, good contacts for this lineage is Melvin and Chester who are both still alive.
