"Albert Chesbro Van Tine, Jr. - Secretary, treasurer and manager of the Raritan Savings Bank, Albert Chesbro Van Tine, Jr. is one of the leading bankers of Somerset County, and a prominent citizen of his community, active both as an official of various financial and humanitarian organizations as well as generous in his support of all civic, business, social and fraternal groups working for the prosperity and welfare of Raritan and Somerset County.
Albert Chesbro Van Tine, Jr., was born at Brooklyn, New York, on June 26, 1890, the son of Albert C. and Adelaide (Williams) Van Tine. Albert C. Van Tine, Sr., who was born near Newburgh, New York, is now living in retirement after a busy life. His wife, Adelaide (Williams) Van Tine, is a native of Mount Vernon, New York.
After attending the public schools of Brooklyn, New York, Albert Chesbro Van Tine, Jr., completed his education in the public schools of Cranford, New Jersey, and then purchased, in 1909, a retail grocery store at Somerville, New Jersey, which he operated for a period of two years, under the name of Bachman & Van Tine. Selling his interest in this establishment Mr. Van Tine worked for two years as a salesman in association with the Prudential Insurance Company, of New York, and then, in 1912, became a bookkeeper and salesman for the William H. H. Wyckoff Company, of Somerville, New Jersey, an organization with which he continued until 1926. That year he bagan his career as a banker, for he joined the staff of the Raritan, New Jersey, State Bank as an assistant cashier. He held this position until 1936, when he resigned to accept appointment as secretary, treasurer and manager of the Raritan Savings Bank, of Raritan, New Jersey, an association which he has maintained through the present time. Secretary of the Raritan Building & Loan Association, of Raritan, New Jersey, since 1925, Mr. Van Tine takes a deep interest in all civic affairs but is particularly concerned with humanitarian projects. He is also a trustee of the Somerset County Hospital at Somerville, New Jersey. Mr. Van Tine is independent in his political activities. He is a member of the Third Reformed Church, of Raritan.
Albert Chesbro Van Tine, Jr., married on December 25, 1915, Florence M. Stevens, of Raritan, New Jersey, the daughter of Samuel F. and Martha (Benbrook) Stevens, of Raritan. Mr. and Mrs. Van Tine have become the parents of three children: 1. Arthur B., graduated from the Somerville, New Jersey, High School, and from Denver University; he married, and he and his wife are the parents of a son: Arthur Roscoe. 2.
