Pearl Elizabeth Stratton Vantine

GUYMON, Okla. - Pearl Elizabeth Stratton Vantine, 86, died Saturday,
March 20, 1999, in Amarillo.

Services were at 3 p.m. Monday in Victory Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike Chaffin officiating. Burial was in the Elmhurst Cemetery by Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home.

Mrs. Vantine was born at Coldwater Creek, southeast of Guymon. She attended Roy School, a one-room school house on her parents ranch. When she was a sophomore, she attended Guymon public schools, graduating in 1929. She attended Oklahoma College for Women at Chickasha; Oklahoma A&M at Stillwater; and Panhandle A&M at Goodwell, where she graduated in 1934. She earned a lifetime teacher's certificate and a bachelor's degree in commerce. After her graduation, she began working for Guaranty Abstract and Title Co.

She married Mark Vantine in 1935. They moved to Pampa, Texas, where they owned and operated the White-Way Restaurant. During this time, they became partners in ranching with her sister, Jean. In 1950, they moved back to Guymon and ranched full time.

She had been a director on the City National Bank Board and served on the Texas County Memorial Foundation and the Texas County Development Co. She was a 57-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, past president of the Delphinium Garden Club and was a member of the Daughters of the Confederacy.

In 1986, the family and the ranch were among the first to be presented the Oklahoma Centennial Ranch award for 100 years in ranching. In
1992, she was chosen as Pioneer Day Queen.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1986.

Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth Stratton Vantine Grigg of
Atlanta; two granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren.

The family requests memorials be to the Guymon School Athletic Fund or a favorite charity. Memorials will be accepted at the Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1112, Guymon, OK 73942.
