ID: I1332
Name: Nettie HELOWELL WHITMORE
Sex: F
Birth: 7 JAN 1853 in Racine, Wisconsin
Death: 1932 in Burlington, Wisconsin
Event: BURI 1932 Burlington, Wisconsin (Lyons Cemetery)

Note:
Obituary clipping from a 1932 Burlington, Wisconsin paper and in the memorial record booklet of Sarah Jane Helowell Price, her sister.

Mrs. A. D. Vantine
(Nettie Helowell Whitmore Vantine)

Mrs. A. D. Vantine, aged 79 years, one of the pioneers of this section and a woman loved by all who knew her, passed away at her home on Conkey Street early monday morning. Mrs. Vantine broke her hip in a fall some two weeks ago and was unable to stand the shock, declining gradually until the end came.

Nettie Holloway Whitmore was born at the English settlement January 7, 1853. Her parents died when she was seven years of age and she grew to womanhood at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Whitmore. On January 31, 1875, she was united in marriage with A. D. Vantine and their home was a happy one for more than fifty-seven years. They started housekeeping on a farm near Lyons, but in 1892 moved to this city and have since made their home here. She took an interest in the affairs of the community and was an active worker in the Baptist church during its existence here.

Mrs. Vantine is survived by her husband; one daughter, Mrs. R. A. Tindall, of Fond du Lac; one son, Lewis A. Vantine of Milwaukee; two grandsons, Lewis and Roy Tindall, Jr., of Fond du Lac, two sisters, Mrs. Henry Joy of Hollywood and Mrs. William Hardie of Canon City, Colo.

Funeral services were held at the Plymouth Congregational church Wednesday afternoon with Rev. Carl Stackman officiating, assisted by Rev. C. F. Spray of the M. E. church . Burial was in Lyons Cemetery.

Note: There is a very interesting booklet, which I have, that was written by Lewis A. Vantine entitled "Trip to Colorado in 1903". The booklet is handmade with a cover made out of wallpaper and the pages printed on one side. The printing looks like a carbon copy made with a manual typewriter. On the fly leaf it is written by someone in pencil "Trip to Colorado 1903."

Also written on the fly leaf, in pencil, in the handwriting of my dad (Warren McNichols), "By Lewis Vantine". Under that is written in the handwriting of my mother (Helen Matthews McNichols), "Lewis Vantine was a nephew of Jennie Price". "Jennie" Price was Sarah Jane Price the wife of Noble Price and a sister of Nettie Helowell Whitmore Vantine. Lewis A. Vantine mentions in his account of meeting Aunt Jennie Price and her daughter Dora, from Kansas who were visiting their other sister, Frances (Aunt Frank) Helowell Hardie of Victor, Colorado also in 1903.

This booklet has 17, 7" X 10" pages, single spaced and typed on one side. I was able to transcribe this booklet on a wordprocessor, so it could be easily printed.

How to use Ontario Deaths 1869-1947 : Death registrations are the best source of death information. Use information on the person's age, occupation, religious affiliation, and birth place to search for additional records with genealogical content. Death registrations also provide clues to search for relations of the deceased. The informant may have been a child or other relative of the deceased. In post 1907 registrations, use the names and birthplaces of parents to begin compiling a family group and to extend the lineage.
