Clarke was doing a growing mercantile business and was again elected to the Assembly. among other new settlers were Isaac Denio, John Millerman, and Benjamin Ballou. Most of the settlers in Clarence were still located in the south part of the town, but Matthias Vantine penetrated the wilderness to four miles north of Harris Hill and there made his home. Rec'd cert #766 10 June 1784 signed by Stelle for L0:16:5 for Middlesex County Militia pay. Res. Middlesex Co., NJ, age 17 years [but no note as to year when he was 17].
Regarding the above information, since his service coincided with one of the Abraham's service, I feel that they may be brothers. No proof. He was alive in 1831. Pension for service 1777, dated 7 June 1832, aged 73, served 6 months under Col. Taylor as private, Middlesex NJ, signed by mark. #S9495

This is odd. The first ennumeration had an Esther Vantine, age 87, b. New Jersey, which I finally decided had to be Eve Vantine, widow of Jacob. But this second enumeration shows that the family she was living with was related to the Dutchess Vantines.

General Notes (Husband)
How I think this family fits together.
Jacob is continually in the NYC Directories at an address on 692 Greenwich.
The death record for Martin Leggett Vantine's child --- gives that address.
Jacob is Methodist. Martin was married in a Methodist Church.
Martin and Jacob are in "provisions".
Jacob was born and married in Middlesex county, NJ.
Isaac is buried with Martin.
The family in New Jersey has an Isaac and a Jacob about whom nothing is known.
A possible scenario -
Isaac and Jacob move to NYC. Isaac dies young and Jacob takes his son/widow/unknown other children.
