Noted events in his life were:
• Research Note 114
On the marriage certificate of Henry Proudlove and Sarah Bates,
theoccupation of Henry is shown as 'labourer'. Bibliofox
reported that on the 1851 British census, the occupation
ofHenry was shown as 'agricultural labourer'. Henry was living
in Madeleywith his wife, Sarah, two young children: Joseph aged
3 yrs and Mary aged4 months, as well as a nephew called William
Proudlove aged 15. It is likely that the nephew, William
Proudlove is the oldest son ofHenry's sister, Hannah Proudlove
and her husband, William Backhouse.Hannah's family moved to the
Channel Islands for a few years, whilstWilliam remained with
the family in Staffordshire, before they allemigrated to the
U.S.A. Bibliofox reported that on the 1861 British census,
Henry and SarahProudlove and their children: Mary aged 10,
Henry aged 8, Charles aged 5and Sarah Anne aged 2 were living
in Madeley. Bibliofox reported that on the 1871 British census
there was no sign ofHenry and Sarah Proudlove living in
Madeley, nor of their children, younger than Mary. Although both
Charles and Thomas died young, they werealive in spring of
1871. By the time of the 1881 British census, Sarah had died
and Henry was 58years old and remarried to a lady called:
Margaret, who was 61 years oldand was living with her in
Congleton, Cheshire, giving his occupation as'retired farmer'.
