Charles Beekman, husband of Ytje Van Zandt, was a cordwainer of New York City, and was a son of Samuel Beekman, Sr. and Magdalena Fontaine. Magdalena Fontaine was baptized Oct. 26, 1659, at New York City; buried July 29, 1738, 'aged 79 or 80 years old,' in the Lutheran Church, New York City, daughter of Charles Fontaine and Katarina de Bailie. The will of 'Charles Ffontaine' of Bushwick, made Aug 1, 1687, mentions grandson Charles Beakman (above) and granddaughter Margrite Beakman, 'children of Samuel Beakman and Maddeleentie Ffontyn" (Record, 47:166)."
