I am 100% positive that Bertha Florence Benbrook is my Great Grandmother. She was born Jan 26, 1878 in Newark, New Jersey. According to the 1880 Federal Census, a Bertha F. Benbrook, age 2, is shown living in a James T. and Mary E. Benbrook household. Brothers and sisters are Walter, William, and Anna. I haven't been able to verify that this 1880 Bertha F. Benbrook is from my lineage, but the birthdates, locations all match relatively straightforward. My Bertha Florence Benbrook's death certificate shows parents as unknown. Any chance you have some additional information from your searching that would match up and provide any confirmation around my circumstantial assumptions?

Know all men by these present, that I JONATHAN BOYD and MARY FRANCES BOYD, the said Mary Francies being on of the heirs at law of Stephen Benbrook dec'd do hereby acknowledge that we have recieved from THOMAS HARDY, RALPH DAVENPORT, and JOHN M. MANN, commissioners appointed to sell the real estate of the the said STEPHEN BENBROOK, dec'd. The sum of three hundred and eighty six dollars and sixty cents in full of the distributive share of the said MARY FRANCES of the sale of the said real estate according to the report of said commissioners and their account filed in the Surrogates office of the county of Somerset, May term 1848: and we do hereby release and discharge the said commissioners any further liability or accountablity to us on our account of said sales. On the thirteenth day of June Eighteen Hundred and Forty eight personally came fefore me, the subscriber, one of the judges of the inferior court of Common pleas of said county, Jonathan Boyd and Mary Frances Boyd, his wife know to me as the releasers above named. I having made known to them the nature and contents of the above instrument of release they saverlly acknowledged that the executed the same freely of their own will and accord for the uses purposes Wherein expressed: and the said May Frances being examend seperate and apart from her said husband, acknowledged that she executed the same without any fear, threats or compulsions of her husband.
