Hi - am looking for Golightly family of Tyne on Wear or Tynesmouth. Family stories say Durham, but only stories! The 1880 Colorado Census lists Isabelle Golightly, "daughter of Eleanor Helen Bolam and William Golightly, both parents born in Scotland." Any connection? Thanks! Researcher

Birth: 16 JUN 1826 in Durham, England
Death: 28 DEC 1915 in Golden Cem., Blk. 80, Lot 1; CO
Note:
William brought his family to America in 1852 to La Salle Illinois. Then moved to Golden, Colorado in 1876. His wife Helen Boland, apparently, passed away in LaSalle. He remarried, a widow with children. Many of the Golightlys were involved in mining upon their arrival in Colorado.
There is confusion as to the relation of the Dunns to the Golightlys. Our family belief is that William and Helen raised George Vincent Dunn I.
He later married the oldest child of William and Helen, Margaret Golightly, and had one son, George Vincent Dunn II. George Vincent II married Katie Frank and had four children. Katie Frank Dunn was widowed with four small children. Grandfather William, a widower, spent his final days in the home of Katie Frank Dunn.
Georgia Lou Dunn Venk, Katie Frank Dunn's granddaughter, research (June 1995) leds her to believe that Margaret Golightly was probably George Vincent Dunn I 's third wife and that William Golightly was a Step-Grandfather to the Dunns.
A Colorado census report, shows the Dunns and the Golightlys living in the same house in Golden, CO.

Pioneer of Leadville Dies at Golden Home
William Golightly, 89 Years Old, Succumbs to Infirmities Due to His Years.
Golden, Colo., Dec. 30.--William Golightly, one of Colorado's pioneers, died here Tuesday night night. Old age was given as the cause. He had reached the age of 89 years lacking a few months.
Mr. Golightly has lived in Colorado for the past thirty-nine years and in this city for nearly twenty-five years. He was born in Durham county, England, June 16, 1827. In the early days he went into the mining district and located at Leadville, where he made a small fortune but business reverses and speculations caused him to lose it.
For several years he had charge of the clay mines north of Golden and the coal mines which were operated here at that time. He retired from active work about fifteen years ago and has been living here with his son, Henry Golightly and family. He is the father of twelve children, seven of them living--Mrs. Henry Schnieder of Troy, N.Y.; Mrs. Joe Allen of Denver; William Golightly of Pawnee, Ill.; Abe Golightly, George Golightly, and Henry Golightly of Golden, Colo., and Mrs. Janie Restine, Botash, Oklahoma. Several grandchildren and great-grand-

Note:
THOMAS THEISS, great-grandfather of our immigrant ancestor JOHANN MATTHIAS THEISS, is our first clearly established ancestor. He was a zensor (CENSOR) in Ruthweiler(ROOT-VILE-ER). His date of birth is unknown; however, researchers such as Rudi Jung have speculated it to be "before 1600." Others, however, have it as late as1617 or 1622. I suspect the later dates are estimates based on the birth of his earliest confirmed child, HANS JOST THEISS in 1642, and very much doubt these.
The death record of Thomas Theiss, which, Richard Reed and I have attempted to decipher, lists his age on September 1, 1675, as "finf (five) und 70 Jahr" (years); that is 75, making his DOB as 1599 or 1600, which is where I suspect Rudi Jung's estimate comes from. The Old German script and the incredibly ornate handwriting in this case, makes this particular record hard to read. In any case, he lived an extremely long life by that age's standards.
If we take the 1600 date as the year of his birth, Thomas Theiss is about 42 when hia first known child, HANS JOST THEISS, is born. Thomas's wife is Maria Margaretha ( last name unknown). It is possible that it was JOST, a name found in the area. There is a Closen JOST who marries a Katharina and has two daughters named Margretha. One is born March 3, 1615, the other Dec 9, 1624. Either, I suppose, could be the wife Thomas THEISS and the mother of Hans Jost. However, a better possibility for the origin of Hans Josts's name is the Jost is from Hans Jost's "Paten" or godfather, Jost Morgenstern of Konken as listed on the baptism record. He would seem to be the most likely Hans Jost's namesake, so could this Margaretha possibly be his daughter? A Morgenstern? Another namesake, and the most likely parents for Margaretha I feel, is BOLLENBACHER.
ANDREAS BOLLENBACHER and his wife SALOME of Kusel are the namesakes and baptism sponsors for Thomas and Margaretha's second and third children JOHANN ANDREAS THEISS, baptized 14 May 1649, and CHRISTINA SALOME THEISS, baptized August 7, 1653.
In one of the Old German naming patterns the second born son is named after the mother's father, and the first born daughter is named after the mother's mother. This is a perfect fit for Andreas and Salome Bollenbacher. I have searched among ther early Kusel record for their children and have found some, but no Maria Margaretha; however many of the early Kusel records are damaged and impossible to read. Maria Margarehta (Bollenbacher) Theiss dies in childbirth with Salome, and is buried in Kusel.
Thomas Theiss was a censor, which was a kind of tax collector for the church. In this case the Lutheran Church. The area around Kusel was heavily Lutheran and the Deanery of Cusel, a 1609 document, is a kind of tax record, listing all the various inhabitants of the 109 surrounding villages and their holdings.
I have also found another wife for Thomas. He marries another Margaretha(KLEIN) d/o HANS KLEIN of Thal Lichtenberg where he is listed as a "hirt," (a herder or shepherd), and ANNA.
Thomas Theiss and Margaretha Klein are married in January 1654. They have 4 children: Margaretha, followed by Hans Matthias 1659, Hans Nikolaus 1663, and ending in 1666 with Johann Jakob THEIS, making Thomas at least 62 or probably 67, when this last child is born. These last two sons, Jakob and Nickolaus, marry and stay in Germany and have many more children that account for most of the Theis listed in Rudi Jung's Ortssippenbuch Landkreis Birkenfield II pub in 1978. They are being included here as I have time.
Since Thomas had at least two wives and 7 children, and his first child we have a record for is Hans Jost Theiss in 1642, it is quite possible there were children before Hans Jost as well as another wife or wives.
There is a Michael THEISS who has 2 daughters born 1653 and 1659 in Ruthweiler; Thomas Theiss is a baptism sponsor for [text is cut off at this point]
