Biog./Hist. Note Dunmore' War was a conflict between the Colony of Virginia and the Native Americans of the Ohio Valley. Following increased raids and attacks on frontiersmen in this region, the Royal Governor of Virginia, Lord Dunmore, organized a large force of militia and marched to Fort Pitt arriving at the end of August 1774. Dunmore also ordered Colonel Andrew Lewis, commander ofthe southwestern Virginia militia, to raise an army in the south and meet Dunmore's force along the Ohio River. Lewis formed militia companies from Augusta, Bedford, Botetourt, Culpeper, Dunmore, Fincastle, and Kentucky counties. After Colonel Lewis' victory at the Battle of Point Pleasant, Dunmore successfully negotiated a peace treaty with the Delaware, Mingo, and Shawnee chiefs that prevented them from settling or hunting south of the Ohio River.
Related Work Part of the index to the names of Virginia citizens or soldiers from the counties of Augusta, Bedford, Botetourt, Culpeper, and Fincastle who were compensatedin 1775 for supplies and service during Dunmore's Expedition in 1774. This index covers individuals from the counties of Augusta, Bedford, Botetourt, and Fincastle only. These records are now part of the Virginia Colonial Government records group (RG#1) and are housed in the Archives at the Library of Virginia.

I recently came across your family history on the web. I was looking for a Cornelius Valentine, who in the 1840 census lived in Mundy, Genessee Co. I have a copy of the census, He was listed with a wife and 5 kids. I believe one of his Sons is Hiram W. Valentine. I'm not sure if we are talking about the same person or not. Let me know if you have anymore info on this person?
you have him listed as married to Esther? Maybe we help each other with some
info! Please respond.

Dear Carol,
Thank you for your quick response.
George W. Stevens lived at McKinley Street and Harstrom Place, Rowayton, CT., and was a partner with his brother, Aaron Stevens, in the lobster business. George Stevens was the Chief of the Rowayton Volunteer Fire Departmrent in 1907. Both George and Aaron were the sons of William Augustus Stevens.
Edwin Lee Stevens, whose father was a Civil War veteran, was the first chief of the fire department, and the real founder of the fire company. He was a local house painter and met a tragic death in 1939 when he fell off a ladder while painting the house next door to the present fire department building. Edwin was fire chief from 1902 - 1906 and then again from 1912 - 1913. He was also president of the executive board for Rowayton Hose Company, No 1 in 1926.
Just thought I would pass that on for whatever it is worth :O)
Your Cousin,
Roger Stevens

Services For S. G. Fisher, Jr. This Afternoon
Funeral services for S. G. Fisher Jr., 37, of 1409 Olive Street, who died shortly before midnight Thursday, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Walnut Street Church of Christ. Mr. George F. Carter will officiate, assisted by Mr. Andy T. Ritchie of Searcy, Ark.
Burial will be in the Chapalwood Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be B.V. Matloc, H. R. Lucas, Vonie Haile, D. A. Shofner, Woody Bailey, and Robert Baker. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Woodlin, Inc. and other friends.
Mr. Fisher died unexpectedly at his parents' home, 1408 Olive Street, after being released from a local hospital Thursday morning. Injured February 4th in an automobile collision on West Seventh Street, he appeared to be in a satisfactory condition when he left the hospital.
He was removed to his parents' home in order that they could take care of him while his wife, Evelyn, was at work. She is a secretary of the Four States Fair Association.
The tour [sic] of them spent the evening watching television and it was after he had retired for the night that he was fatally stricken. Efforts to save him by artificial respiration and oxygen failed. Death was attributed to a blood clot.
Mr. Fisher was born on November 17, 1922, in the house where he died. He had lived in Texarkana all of his life, and was a purchasing agent for Woodlin, Inc. He was a member of the Walnut Street Church of Christ and the Marine Reserves.
In addition to his wife and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stanford Guthrie Fisher, Sr., he is survived by a sister, Mrs. Gregory Dozier, and a nephew, Stan Dozier, of Fort Worth.
