Elisha, Daniel and Martin BROWN were three of seven sons of Elisha BROWN, who were born in Bolton, Connecticut, whence their family moved to Vermont, where their father died in 1802, at the age of 79 years. Elisha Jr., and Daniel were soldiers of the Revolution. They emigrated quite early from Vermont to Newtown, where in April 1790, Elisha Jr. married Jemima, sister of Perley DEAN. In February 1793, they moved to Benton, then Jerusalem, and settled first on lot 31, on land now occupied by Jacob WATSON, afterwards a little west of Benton Centre, on land now owned by Dr. John L. CLEVELAND. He was a mechanic, and assisted Levi BENTON Jr., in the construction of several mills, built at an early period about the country. He was also employed by the POTTERS, and was an industrious and useful man. He died in 1815, at the age of 67 years. His wife died in 1819, at the age of 48 years. Their children were: Pamela, Almira, Polly, Tamasin, Sarah, Harriet, Ephraim and Elisha. Pamela became the wife of Luther WINANTS. Almira married Daniel VAN TYNE. He was a prosperous merchant at Cleveland, Ohio, from whence he moved to Racine, Wis., where he died, leaving three children: Ann Eliza, William and Kate. Polly married Peter MOON and resides in Penn Yan, with her daughter, Mrs. Joseph HOLIDAY. Tamasin married William MOON, a nephew of Peter, and lives west, a widow. Sarah married Jonathan RUSSEL and is a widow at Marietta, Onondaga Co., NY. Harriet married Robert MEAD, a nephew of Daniel VAN TYNE. He has also been a businessman of note, and resides in Racine, Wis. They have two children, Frank and Ann. Ephraim died single. Elisha married Margaret, sister of Daniel VAN TYNE and died in Ohio in 1869, at the age of 59 years, leaving no children.• 1860 Census, 2 Jun 1860 - Ward 2, Racine, Racine, Wisconsin

Hi,
My name is Kathleen, and I have recently begun my geneological search.
My direct line is as follows:
1) Carel Fonteyn b 1622 - Catharyn De Baile
2) Johannes Fonteyn abt. 1666 - Catrina Willemse abt. 1668
3) Jan Fonteyn abt. 1700 - Sara (Van Amburgh/Amboy)abt. 1720
4) Isaac Fonteyn 1722 - Mary (Mollie) Bogardus abt 1723
5) Cornelius Vantine 1747 - Nellie Ames abt. 1747
6) John Vantine 1787 - Frances Phillips 1795
7) John Henry Vantine 1826 - Arabella Brown 1830
8) George Brown VanTine 1857 - Caroline W. Dietrick
9) George Dietrick VanTine 1902 - Helena Klein 1905
George D. and Helena were my Grandparents. The VanTine
line ends here with George D. as they only had two girls,
Helene and Mary VanTine.
I had been stuck for awhile because the information I
had on the VanTine line had Isaac VanTyne and Molle
Bogardus. I was wondering if anyone has been able to
trace Nellie Ames' line backward? Or possibly Arabella
Brown's line?
Thank you to those whose websites have so much information
on the VanTine line - I will verify what I have found there
with the information I am expecting. A Great Aunt compiled
much of my information many years ago, but she went no
further than Isaac on the VanTine side.

1908 October December [date is not on the page]
Death of LaFayette Vantine.
The town of Chazy lost one of its much esteemed and aged citizens in the death of Lafayette Vantine, which occurred Oct. 3, 1908. During his long and painful illness Mr. Vantine showed great patience and fortitude, fearlessly facing death as it drew nearer each succeeding week. He retained his mental faculties to a remarkable degree to the very end.
The funeral service was held at the residence on the afternoon of Oct. 5, at 2 o'clock, and was attended by many relatives and acquaintances from far and near. Rev. C. A. Bradford officiated and the interment was at Ingraham cemetery.
Mr. Vantine was born April 23, 1824, and married Miss Elizabeth Goodrich of Gouveneur, St. Lawrence county, March 4, 1848. Two children were born to them: Dewitt H. of Grand Island, Nebraska, and Mrs. Nellie E. V. Pardy of Chazy. Mrs. Vantine died January 10, 1874. On January 14, 1875, Mr. Vantine married Mrs. Cornelia Brown Smith, who with the son and daughter survive him.
He united with the M. E. church some 45 years ago. Though never seeking political office, he was ever true to his convictions and beliefs and daring to do what seemed just and right in all daily walks of life. He had been a correspondent for The Sentinel for over forty years.
In all his dealings he was efficient and prompt, thus setting an example worthy of consideration by the rising generation.
