I can tell you that the daughter of Robert Brown and Mary A. Van Tine is Isabell or Sarah Isabell. She married my great grandfather James Sherburne, after his 1st wife died. My grandmother related stories of how she did not get along with her stepmother. James Sherburne lived with Isabell in Shortsville, NY for a time. They were married on Oct. 30, 1890. She died in Ontario County in June of 1916. I believe that her body was taken back to Clarence, NY for burial.

I have been researching the Sherburne line for some time.

Yours,
Cecilia Damschroder

Subject: RE: [BROWNELL] William C Brownell & Cynthia, NY, Mich

I also have Brownells in Oakland Co, Michigan. In fact they were in Oxford, Oakland Co, where William C's daughter, son-in-law and mother were listed in the 1880 census.

My Brownell is George Brownell (1798-1877), married Nancy Ann Barer/Baker (1802-1876). They married about 1823 in New York. George is the son of George Brownell (c 1765- ) and Elizabeth Vantine (1761-c 1855). They were in Dutchess Co, NY. This George is the son of Timothy Brownell (c 1721-c 1808) and Jane Birdsall (1741- ). Our lines share the common ancestor William Brownell (1693-c 1742) and Sarah Smiton (1654-1716).

I have some records for your Brownell family in Oakland County. There was also a third Brownell family in Farmington Twp. That George was into politics.

I would be interested in any information on the Brownells that I may have missed. You may contact me off-list. Priscilla@theparrs.org.

• WARNING

I don't know who this is and have doubts about whether she is truly a Vantine or whether the name was misspelled.
