Allene Vantine

Memorial graveside services for Allene Vantine will be at 10 a.m. today, Dec. 11, 2003, at Rose Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Billy Smith officiating. Allene Vantine was born on Nov. 13, 1923, in Fort Cobb, Okla., to H.E. Burnett and Mettie Morgan. She went to be with the Lord on Dec. 9, 2003, after a long illness.

God saw she was getting tired

And a cure was not to be

So he put his arms around her

And whispered, "Come with me."

With tearful eyes we watched her suffer

And saw her fade away

Although we loved her dearly

We could not make her stay

A golden heart stopped beating

Hard working hands to rest

God broke our hearts to prove to us

He only takes the best.

Allene graduated from Gracemont High School in 1943. She married William "Bill" Vantine on June 11, 1943, and had three children. She was widowed on June 23, 1987. She always wanted to be a poet, and has written many poems. In 1987, she wrote a poem after the death of her husband, Bill, and received a Golden Poet Award from World Book of Poetry of New York City in 1988. She was a pianist who played by ear and played at many churches in Ardmore. She also played guitar and 10 harmonicas of all types.

She was dearly loved by every life she touched. She loved the Lord and gospel music, and was a fan of Bingo. She was an extraordinary lady with a brilliant mind. She truly loved a lot in her time.

She is survived by children, Billy Joe Vantine, Dallas, Shirley Darlene, Foster, and Donald Ray Vantine, Ardmore; two granddaughters, Julie Vantine George, Dickson, and Melissa Rene Day, Ardmore; five great-grandchildren, Shawnda and Haley Day, and Dillon, Kristen and Kathrine George; a brother, Harlan Burnett; and a sister, Lola Saxon.

Bearers will be A.D. Smith, Bill Monroe, Shawn Day, Jeri Vaughan, Lucky and Wyndell. Honorary bearer is Dewayne Stevens.
