79. Charles Frederick JOY [Capt.] (Charles Frederick , Wilder , John , David ) was born 8 Jun 1845 in Chelsea, Suffolk, Massachusetts. He died 28 Oct 1933 in Chelsea, Suffolk, Massachusetts. [Notes] "Mr. Joy was from Brighton; by 1882 he was living in Boston, working with the Pope Bicycle Company. "The Record lists this information on his re-enlistment activities: "Sergeant Co. F, 2d Heavy Artillery, Oct. 8 1863. Transferred as Second Lieutenant 54th Mass. Vols., Sept. 30, 1864; First Lieutenant, March 30, 1865; Captain, July 17, 1865; discharged Aug. 20, 1865, on expiration of the service. "The 54th was that Negro regiment under Col. Robert Gould Shaw, made famous in the movie "Glory." He would not have participated in either of their most famous battles (Ft. Wagner in '63 and Olustee in Feb. '64), but it was still a sign of honor for him to have been an officer with this famous regiment."
