This Indenture made the Seventeenth Day of May in the year of Our Lord one Thousand seven hundred and ninety eight Between Richard Gregory of Chatham County and State of North Carolina planter of the one part and Simon Rubottom of the same State and County of Moore Yeoman of the other part Witnesseth that the Said Richard Gregory for and in consideration of the Sum of four hundred pounds lawfull money of said State to him the Said Richard Gregory well and truly paid at or before the Ensealing and delivering of these presents doth request release ______ and forever discharge the Said Simon Rubottom, his heirs, executors, administrators and every of them by these presents and the Said Richard Gregory together with Margaret his wife Hath granted bargained given sold aliened released and confirmed and by these presents Do give and grant Bargain Sell Alien release and confirm unto the said Simon Rubottom his heirs and assigns all that plantation and Tract of land lying and being in the County of Chatham and on Tich and Ephraims Creeks forks of Rocky River Beginning at a red Oak on the South Side runing North Crossing the Creek 26 1/2 chains to a white oak then East crossing the fork 50 and 1/2 chains to a stake in William Greave's Corner thence along sd Greave's line south 16 (?) chains 75 links to a Stake then along another line of Greave's E.N.E. 16 chains 5 links to a persimmon and white oak thence South 35 Chains 75 links to a Black Jack thence west 65 Chains to the Beginning containing two hundred and Eighty two acres of land be the Same more or less which is part of three hundred and two acres of Land granted by the Right Honurable the Earl of Granville by his commissioners of propery to James Williams by deed bearing date the 15th day of March 1756 and duly recorded in the Registers office in Hillsborough in Book C, page 286 & recourse being thereto had will more fully appear Together with all Buildings, Improvements, ways, woods, Waters, watercourses, fishings, fowlings, Hawkings, Huntings, Easements, profits, commodities, advantages, and hereditiments whatsoever thereunto belonging or in Any ways appurtaining and the reversions, rents, issues, and profits thereof and of every part and parcel thereof with the appurtenances and all and Singular the Estate right title Interest property claim and demand whatsoever of the Said Richard Gregory and his wife aforesd of into and Out of the premises and every part & parcel thereof. To have and to hold the sd Land Tenements & hereditiments and all and Singular the premises whatsoever hereby granted mentioned or intended to be granted with there and every of their appurtenances unto him the sd Simon Rubottom his heirs forever and a purportionable part of the yearly Quitrents which shall become due or already due to the Cheif Lord of the fee thereof and the said Richard Gregory and his wife their heirs & the Sd Lands, and hereditiments and all and Singular the before granted and Bargained premises with their and every of their appurtenances unto him the Sd Simon Rubottom and his heirs against against all and every other person and persons whatsoever claiming by from or under them or any of them shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents. In Witness whereof the Sd parties have hereunto Interchangeable Set their hands and affixed their Seals the day and year first above written. p>
