"Prof. Ira Rubottom Brings Home Bride"

Contributed by Mary Jane Hennon, Mjhennon@aol.com

Prof. Ira Rubottom, superintendent of the Marston public schools during the term just closed, returned home last week bringing with him a charming bride in the person of Miss Ethel Lucille Hawkins. We reprint the following account of the wedding from the Lilbourn Herald:

"Miss Ethel Lucille Hawkins of this city and Prof. Ira M. Rubottom of Greenville, Mo., were united in the holy bonds matrimony Tuesday, May 15, by Rev. W. M. Wigger, pastor of the Baptist Church, of which both were active members and workers." "The affair was distinctly a home one, the ceremony being performed in the presence of the immediate family of the bride. The bride is an estimable young lady of splendid character and of a family well and favorably known in this locality. The groom is a graduate of William Jewel College and with credits as well at the Missouri University, principal of the Lilbourn High School a year ago, superintendent of Marston High School this year and a young man of irreproachable character."

The happy couple will visit at the home of the groom this and in the fall will enter the Seminary at Louisville, Ky., Prof. Rubottom, to prepare himself for the ministry." The best wishes of their many friends attend them.

Contributer's Note: I looked in Social Security files and found he was born November 21, 1895 and he died September 1989. Last known address Lilbourn, Missouri 63862
