Hannah Rubottom was born in Greene County, February 24, 1840; died at her
home near Owensburg, November 22, 1906, aged sixty-six years, eight months,
twenty-eight days. She was the oldest of a family of three children, and her
mother dying when she was a mere child she was left to battle through life
without a mother's care and love, besides having the care of a brother and
sister. She was married to Thomas Roberts in 1864. To this union were born
eleven children--six boys and five girls. They spent a happy life together
till February 25, 1898, when he was called to the better land, since which
time she and a son have lived together.
For several months she had been in declining health, but not until the last
few weeks was she confined to her bed. Her suffering was great, but borne
with much patience. During her sickness she received the best of care from
her family and friends, and especially was she tenderly cared for by a
dutiful son who stayed with her since the
father's death.
Her life was a pure one, full of good deeds, thoughts and virtues. She was
always ready to lend a helping hand when it was in her power to do so.
She united with the regular Baptist Church at Kentucky Ridge at an early age
and was a faithful Christian until her death. She leaves a large family of
children and many relatives and friends to mourn her death. M.H.
